So they added Rez Sickness sometime in 2008 for any level 50+ player. The thing was that if you die, you'd get 5 minute debuff on you. If I remember right, it would do stuff like, reduce your stats by 10 and some other things. And if you died again after getting the debuff, you'd get penalized more.

At some point SOE thought it would be a good idea to cause everyone to get rez sick after dying. This should be undone. It's not cool for lowbies to get pooped on for dying while they're learning the game.

I also wouldn't mind if we dumped it all together. The debuff most often meant, "Okay, everyone stand around while we wait off rez sick". If we want to penalize players for dying (Which I don't think is the right approach), I don't think we should be doing it this way. Players already get penalized by losing all their buffs when they die, possibly not being able to get back to their tombstone, or causing everyone start over if it's a wipe. I just think this was kicking us while we were down in an unfun, nonchallenging, make us wait more kinda way.

It was also unfair for the classes with no way to heal themselves, and put a lot more pressure on the healers than was necessary.

Yeah, it was annoying. It went all the way down to, I believe, 50% stat reduction. If I remember correctly, their reasoning for adding it was to discourage zerging of open world bosses. As in, you would die, spawn at the closest altar, then run back to the boss as fast as possible in hopes of still assisting the raid. I agree it should be gotten rid of and another work around for "zerging" should be thought up.

Not many people zerged with bosses, especially the high end ones. Though admitted Unleashed did it, we kept throwing ourselves at some bosses until we "pestered it to death", but that was stuff like Nerksawl when we were newbs.

I don't really think that's going to be an issue, especially if we have such a low population. If you get to the point that you need to zerg to win, you probably won't be able to take down the boss in question.

But if do want to stop zerging, one option is to put a slowdown on the character. Then they wouldn't be able to go back to the mob. But, frankly, if people want to zerg, why not?

Yeah Rez Sick is something that needs to be removed IMO. One way to prevent Zerging is to cause the player that died to be locked out of the fight, so even if the altar is right next to the mob they couldn't do anything for the group until they won/wiped. Wouldn't apply if they were rezzed by other player, only if they released.

No, please don't leave people out of the fight. The Secret World does that, and I always found that to be horrible.

Rez sick was such a waste, but luckily it capped out at -50%. Still, just seemed like an unneeded penalty on top of XP debt and item damage. Though, I did like tombstones, I spent many a bored evening dying hundreds of times just to write out obscenities and draw pictures with them.

Going against the grain here...

I think death penalty as a whole should be rethought, and made more painful. Taking away rez sickness by itself only makes it, well, less painful.

- rez sickness, annoying, sure, but actually had an immediate effect/consequence for dieing
- limit the number of items that bound to soul after death. You should have to get back to your TS or summon it.
- XP debt, meh, not really a big deal imo, maybe make it worse? Take away more? Lower level?
- item damage, negligible, just another money sink
- NO XP POTS in game! (not really related, but wanted to mention it anyhow)
- more severe penalty summoning your TS from an altar

I think people should be afraid of death, and suffer the consequences when they do, not make it less painful by removing annoyances. If you are left with nothing when you die (everything's on your TS), then sure, getting rid of rez sickness would seem appropriate.

Death penalties only hurt the classes that can't heal themselves, who are already at a major 'difficulty' disadvantage. It shifts the balance in the kind of way that players have no control over. So it's almost like putting some classes in a position that they can't do anything about, and then punishing them for falling into that position.

This is why so many people played Disciples, they were too good at everything. They could dps, tank and heal. No worrying about penalties there.

I think making the XP gain slow and the XP loss from dying is punishment enough. Anything on top of it is just going to be unfairly distributed to nonhealing classes. Making the punishment too tough will also lead to people not taking risks and chances, which is part of the fun of vanguard. If you already know you're going to lose, you won't bother trying. And if you don't risk and attempt more difficult stuff, you won't get better as a player.

There's also the scenario where players will have to deal with circumstances well beyond their control which puts the pressure on the healers. If you're fighting a mob with a really bad, inescapable AOE, how fair is it to punish the classes that can't heal themselves? And don't say the DPS should be working harder to kill it faster, because there are plenty of situations in VG where a DPS class, getting hit with dots and AOEs will not be able to kill a mob before dots and AOES kill them.

I realize that VG is very team oriented, with all the players needing to put their strengths together and work in a coordinated manner to 'get the job done'. And so healers really need to work at keeping players alive while the rest of the group works on killing the mob. But penalizing a player because the healer couldn't keep them up just doesn't sit well with me.
