Hi,

you have this nice subforum for each class and its progress.
What about the racial abilities? I started a Thestran Human Ranger and it seems these 3 inspire racial abilities are not working yet

Many abilities are not working yet. We are concentrating on scripting the quests mostly right now.

I am the one responsible mainly for the abilities. Been really busy lately, but Im getting some more time to actively work on this stuff now. My goal is still to have a significant portion of class abilities (at least all level 1-10 including racials) ready by the beginning of July.

This might be a good thread to ask, instead of starting a new one. Iirc, one of the things that made choosing Race important at release, was not only because of the Racial Skill but also because of Racial Attribute distribution. I might be remembering incorrectly but one of the things done to diminish this was to add a Attribute Cap later in the game. It might have even been added with the terrible patch that overthrew Mekalia.

So I've been wondering how you guys feel about making sure there is not a Attribute Cap? Otherwise just like Faction there's nothing much left but visual distinctions. I.e. at release one of the main reasons to pick Gnomes was you ended up with 100 more Int at level 50. The addition of the Attribute Cap makes the Racial bonuses mostly useless. Also remember at release how hard it was for a Dark Elf to get enough faction to even be able to walk in QA Riverbank just to get quests. At least me personally believes this is one of the things that made Vanguard great and distinctive.

Anyway, apologizes if this was high jacking a topic, feel free to delete my post.

IIRC, the Attribute cap was always there. At least it was there since I started raiding in 2009, so it wasn't something that happened with the Mekalia change. It was put there for balance. If we got rid of Attribute caps, people could put all of their extra points in Strength for melee and Int for casters and be way overpowered. I realize that's simplification of a complex issue, but I don't think we should get rid of the Caps. We can tweak them, but we shouldn't get rid of them.

Your race didn't matter in the end not because specifically of the caps preventing your race from getting their due, but because your gear would even the score no matter what your race is. You could play a gnome and max out Strength and Dex just from your gear alone. So the race didn't matter.

This might be seen differently from non-raiders as they wouldn't have the best of the best gear, but still we have to consider raiders for the content they're attempting vs what non-raiders attempt.

As for faction, the old way of having to grind your way to non-KOS by other races is something we will probably be putting back in. I can't make any promises, but I'm pretty sure we're putting the old faction system in (Unless it breaks something).

The caps might have been added because of pvp balancing, then. But I'm really not understanding how it affects raiding unfairly. Isn't the intent of races to differentiate and have faction mean something significant. Iirc, all the dungeons are pve and if a gnome sorcerer has 50 more Int than a dark elf, and 75 to 100 more than the other races, it doesn't sound unfair but intentional. As far as Strength, wouldn't/shouldn't a orc or ogre always have the capability to be stronger than other races?

Afaik, all gear does/will do is just increase the stats. Choosing a race should reflect your class, especially if you intend to be powerful and a raider, shouldn't it? I could be missing the point here, so just asking.

Gtk about the KoS faction, thanks!

I never played PVP. I'm talking about PVE balance, especially on raids.

My 55 rogue was often pushing 1200-1500 strength and dex during raids. The hard cap for attributes was 990 (18x level). Anything above that had to come from buffs. Now if my rogue weren't capped, I could probably push damn near 2k str and dex on my rogue.

Tanks were already hitting 20-22k HP. They could probably hit 25-28k HP if they put all their points into con.

If you have a raid full of Maximum con Tanks and Maximum Int or Dex or Str DPS, then your raid is over very, very quickly.

T-storming here so I can't really go into it more. I might post again/edit when the storm is over (power just flickered).

PVP was never balanced. They put in a hard damage cap of I think 20/25% of the target's HP, otherwise most big attacks would kill any player in one hit.

As for raid, without any caps players would setup their gear to have a ton of points into one or two stats. Just imagine a tank with all stats in HP/Con, building hate, then two groups full of DPS with every point into their damage stats. Once they unloaded, most raid mobs would die in seconds. If raid mobs were adjusted to handle that, then any raid groups not doing that would never be able to kill them.

If the most difference possible was 100-200 points, then maybe caps wouldn't be needed. But with gear tweaking, players would easily be able to have probably double in their main stat what 'normal' players would have that didn't min/max.
