Content Phase 1: Gathering our Thoughts
Re: Content Phase 1: Gathering our Thoughts
Well, if you're using media wiki, I could set one up on my server and just fill it out as I get a chance, and we can copy it over when you're ready. Then at least we'd have two lives copies out there at least. It doesn't matter to me, I probably won't have any free time before Friday anyway.

Re: Content Phase 1: Gathering our Thoughts
So, some good news. A friend and I discovered that we can import the information from Telonica and Silky Venom and put it on our own wiki! Unfortunately we kinda hafta do it one page at a time, or a category at a time. But still, it's a lot easier that way.
Also as far as copying goes, we found this: Except where otherwise specified, the text on Wikia communities (known as "wikias") is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License 3.0 (Unported) (CC-BY-SA).
To grow the commons of free knowledge and free culture, all users editing or otherwise contributing to wikias that use the CC BY-SA license agree to grant broad permissions to the general public to re-distribute and re-use their contributions freely for any purpose, including commercial use, in accordance with the CC BY-SA license. Such use is allowed where attribution is given and the same freedom to re-use and re-distribute applies to any derivative works of the contributions.

TLDR; Found a way to import existing wiki info to our own wiki. Also found out that we might be able to use everything on these wikis verbatim if it's under the normal wikia Licensing.

Nice find Jak!
Re: Content Phase 1: Gathering our Thoughts
Has anyone started on a tool that extracts data from the collect files and auto generate LUA quest files? It shouldn't be that hard to do since the collects has most of the information needed. I mean... we did collect data for all quests we could find for a reason.

The VGVisualParser does extract the packet data and build SQL tables, yes. Part of the DBEditor was to reconstruct that text into actual LUA functions for the content team to "massage". It cannot be fully automated due to the branching and intense amount of duplicate data, but at least of the Quests/Dialogs that were collected, they do not have to be written by hand.

Re: Content Phase 1: Gathering our Thoughts
FYI, I am moving the Content Design related posts from Private to here so the community at large can see the great lengths the teams went through to get you the VGOEmulator: Official Design Plan. We spent 2 mos, on top of the year prior, discussing the SOE version of the game and all the things people loved and hated about it.
What we will be building, I'm sure some will still hate - but that's the way it goes. Can't please everyone. This topic is also locked because the discussion is over, and the community had their input over the last 18 mos. If you have any additional wishes, post the in the Wish List forum for consideration in post-release Expansions or Patches.
Thank you all for your hard work.
