Khegar's End, man...

Cant wait to roll a dwarf cleric, slam some bugbears, and ultimately get trained by the last room with the King.

Ooh, also you know that Ksaravi hideout on the cliff overlooking Khal? I used to grind there with my dear ol' dad for hours. They used to be 3 dots, but last i checked on the server they were 2 dots. Oh well.

While You're at it, if you get all nostalgic thinking about what you miss, why dont you hop in game real quick, find something that isnt working right that should be and submit a quick bug report about it? I know i am!

First thing I would do is revisit a populated Mekalia, it has been closed down way too long. Even Gnomes don't deserve this. or do they?
Then i'm really going for the long Vol Tuniel grind and the Legendary weapon. When I'm finished with VT I'm thrilled to do the swamps again.

And offcourse I would attempt to re-earn my Sign of the Exemplar of All Telon.

On a side note: don't recall the name, but that haunted house (the one with the mirror on the top floor) is something I really would like to do to. I think that's one of the only dungeons I've never done on live.

Rahz Inkur.. I've been mad with frustration, excited as can be & in complete awe while there. I went and checked it out recently, and again, was in awe of it's beauty, extreme attention to detail, and incredible music (actually, I'm in love with most of the music in VG). My hubby & I would run all over the world for the few years we got to play, and were always surprised at how often we found something new and interesting. I used to spend hours just flying around enjoying the sights.. I also loved the quests & the bad ass raids Can't wait to experience it again!

Save my dungeon group by CCing an ungodly amount of mobs. It's been so long since I've played a MMO where CC even mattered enough in PvE to warrant CC classes.

Ooooh, yeah. Like, most pulls in the later dungeons cant even be attempted without 3 or more mobs being CC'd first.

What class were you?

I was a Paladin. Best damn tank class I ever did play in a MMO. Still, I want a different experience this time around. Plus the idea of raid tanking never thrilled me.

You know, im curious. How WERE the defensive fighter classes later on?

My dad played a warrior to 50 and just hated it. Seemed worse in every way from the other fighters and just couldnt get anything done.

But as for paladin and DK, how were they later on? Were any of the tanks capable of at least good damage? I never tried the DK at all and the paladin was fine for me but i never leveled past 15 or so.

No idea, unfortunately. This was many years ago and I had no basis for comparison being that I always played in a core group. They left once 45+ turned things into a total grind with little to look forward to at which point I turned mainly to diplomacy.

Word was that Paladins were best and warriors were "meh". Looking at the skill list, I don't really see what they could have had going for them. Their only notable advantages over Paladin seem to have been dual wield and a cooldown to go immune to Stun and Fear, which I would think pale in comparison to the outrageous Virtue point abilities alone.

Paladins were extremely OP up until nearer the end of the game when they got a rightly deserved nerfbat to the knee (I say this even though one of my mains was a paladin.) They were seriously a one macro wonder that could easily pull aggro off any established tank. The only things Pally sucked at were adds/multiples. Even then, they could somewhat hold their own.

DKs were good caster tanks, and they could do both singles or multiples fairly well They couldn't do multiples as well as a warrior, and they couldn't do singles as well as a Pally, but they could do multiples better than a pally, and singles better than a warrior.

Warriors were really good at multiple adds. But when I played a raid healer, I found that the warriors were really wanting, and required many more heals than the other tanks. I think because Warriors didn't get a true invuln? I never played a warrior but that's what I heard, IIRC. Nearer the end of the game when Pallies got nerfed, Warriors got buffed and were extremely good tanks.

It made the DKs feel bad because then they felt inferior, but most of the DK's I knew were extremely good. So it didn't affect them much.

I actually look forward to the crafting. I've been playing Rift and GW2 since VG shut down, and I'm really sick of adventuring. I want to work on crafting and diplo in the kind of way that only VG could provide.

I used a couple of warriors for mid-level dungeons and found them to be great fun, having nice group bonuses. Never raided with those but never found them lacking oomph. On a DK main, once I got halfway decent gear, my raid damage went noticeably past any dps classes that were still kind of fresh to raiding. Anyone with t3 who wanted to show off could still pull things from me, but I believe I successfully tanked everything we ever went up against. Not on every try, but there was never any feeling of the class being too weak or anything like that. The really fun parts were sometimes being able to finish a kill when the raid was partially wiped. I'm hoping to come back in and finish Nenly and Guar--those two are difficult because they abandon the tank and kill everyone else.

With a warrior you have no healing; the DK was certainly not keeping itself up just by tapping, but it helped you from going down too fast.

I believe the "backstory" of tank class evolution sounds about right and so maybe pally was the only good one for the first few years, but I definitely found warrior and DK both pretty exciting, and very different from each other. DK is sort of like driving a mack truck and warrior is more like riding a dirt bike. If I remember rightly, DK gives absolutely zero to the group, whereas the warrior is a true commander.

With tanking in general, I never used an invuln except in those phases when it was required, so from my point of view, it was not a form of mitigation to relieve healers. It was either a planned tactic or an emergency.
