It would be nice if we could have the following two things done:

#1. Allow anyone to wear anything in their appearance slot, regardless of level or class. Well, at least class. I can see why people wouldn't want to see level 2's wearing end game looking stuff. But I could see some people wanting ot make T5 appearance gear for their toons cuz it looks nifty. But the class thing, the way it worked originally was that Tanks could pretty much wear anything, they could wear (generally speaking) all the heavy armor, most of the medium armor, and some of the light armor. The casters on the other hand, could only wear light armor. There were some clothing vendors that allowed a caster to buy some heavy armor looking appearance gear, but it was still very limited. I don't really see the need for the restriction if it's just for appearance.

#2. I realize this might not be doable, but it would be nice to have weapon/offhand/ranged appearance too. So I'm throwing this out there. My rogue using The Grave Digger would be awesomely cool. (You know, the shovel.)

I'm not a fan of allowing this for the mere fact that it looks so unnatural and ruins immersion. Appearance gear is fine to a degree but allowing a Rogue to wear heavy plate and carry the "Grave Digger" is just silly and would be more immersion breaking and annoying than fun in my opinion.

I think locking certain things like this is perfectly fine, not everyone should be able to do everything or wear/equip everything, and I would extend that to appearance gear limitations that the Telon server had before it closed down. If a fan made server wanted to implement this rule for personal choice then that would be perfectly fine and their prerogative to do so, but I think for the main and official "New Telon" server that the bulk of us will be playing on it should be kept to the original VG ruleset, as so many of our opinions differ, and we don't want to split our community even further by adding or removing little things like this that can push players away.

This is, of course, my opinion, I don't mean to sound like a party pooper...but this is something that would make me not want to play on this server if I can't distinguish between a Tank and a Rogue due to appearance gear.

I dunno, seeing a tank wearing a dress was always an immersion killer for me, let alone the grave digger just being a shovel. Personally I'd rather see everyone restricted to their own archetypes, but if we're going to let tanks wear robes, then I don't see why casters can't wear plate (They already can through the vendors in NT, I just thought it would be nice if they had more options).

I agree with you there, DKs and Pallies can justify wearing a robe if they are more Int/Vit builds as they cast spells but it still breaks immersion for me and Warriors in my opinion should not be allowed to.

If I had my way I would remove robes from Tanks but I know RPers take their armour off after battle and relax in more comfortable clothing, if they like to wear dresses then that is fine with me but it should be in place of their armour and not appearance gear to look like their armour.

I just have issues with the armour and appearance gear for combat or classes wearing armour or weapons that they have no ability to wear, wield or use, such as two-handed weapons for Rogues, and heavy armour on light fighters or casters other than Clerics (and possibly Tuurgin Shaman) etc.

In my opinion, if you cannot wear it, wield it or use it in battle, you should not be able to appear as if you can.

VG is one of few games that still allows you to wear well-earned armour and weapons with pride and know exactly what the person went through to get it, although towards the end that was slipping away too with the cash shop and F2P.

If I had my way I would remove appearance gear all together and if you want to wear it you must take your armour and weapons off and wear that item in its place as that would be much more realistic and immersive, but I doubt I will get that wish

I'd like to know what class someone is just by looking at them. My cleric can (and did) wear the silver-colored appearance gear (don't remember the name) because it was clearly heavy plate that he was allowed to wear anyhow, appearance or not, but he should never be allowed to sport a Grave Digger.

I rationalize it in a similar way to inventory, seeing as how you couldn't really have four hundred trees in your pocket.

Especially for the tanks, as there have been lightly armored fighters in a tanking role in numerous cultures...when you loot a good plate armor piece, it doesn't have to represent that armor literally, it could be a talisman or the enemy's finger that you hook on a necklace. So the character could still portray a tank outside of the full gothic plate culture, which overall was a brief moment in the history of fighting.

Outside of that, I would agree appearances should be minimally adjustable, it would make a lot more sense for a sorceror to have a favorite robe than a favorite breastplate. So I tend to think "your armor class or lighter" is fine for appearances.

It would make the most sense to me for appearance armor to flag the same as regular armor. Whatever your class can wear as actual armor, they should be able to wear as appearance armor. Same with weapons. Maybe there could be some appearance specific armor that is available for all classes. But to me, the idea of a caster running around in full plate with a two hand sword is just ridiculous. Even if it's just for appearances.

Actually, in my perfect vanguard, there would be either none, or very minimal appearance slots anyway. The whole thing just starts conversations like these and isn't really anything more than an aditional coding challenge for the devs.
