The variety of mounts is very cool; the abundance of them, not.

Now first of all, if the game works the same way, I can exploit a rental mount to make it last indefinitely--so the whole point is moot. Might want to look at this.

I would suggest making the speed factor as the gate. Any lowbie could earn a pegasus, so, once doing that, you should be able to have a slow dragon, nightmare, or whatever. Most people are not going to level lock and farm out those hundreds of plat, but it should be possible.

I strongly feel the game should practically force you into the griffon quest; once having a normal griffon, you could fly at normal speed on a dragon, nightmare, or whatever.

If you do raid griffon or Dresla/wyvern, then any kind of mount could be a fast flyer.

Essentially, I would prefer flight as a skill that makes you do tons of cool content, and not something that a level 8 character is going to beg me for cash so their game experience is not ruined.

I hope we don't go the "every mount can go as fast as the raid griffon" attachment idea. If we want to adjust the speeds of all the mounts then that is fine, but I also think the speed of the mount should tie back to the difficulty in getting it. If it takes you 1 week to get a pegasus then it should not ever fly as fast as the griffon that took you 6 months. That's kinda the same thing to me as saying "Now that I got my Karax axe to drop all my axes will do the same damage"

Raid Griff / Nightmare - pegacorn were the pinicle of flyers and tbh should be a "cut above the rest"

Flyers in general for lower lvls takes away so much of the game and the general areas people skip "cause they can" hurt the game imo. Would rather see people on horses ect than flying around skipping all the content / areas

No I'm not suggesting an easy to get pegasus that keeps upgrading as you level or something like that.

The intention was more that you cannot open a box and flip a flyer to a level 10 character. There could be such an item but it would not work any differently from a horse without some kind of flying mount quest completion.

If some of them remained limited to slow or medium speeds, that's fine too. Just that if *any* of them were allowed to be fast ones, that also would not work without the harder quests.

I agree completely. Between rifts and rentals, there is pretty much nowhere you can't go in Telon. Innovus is about the only place I ever had a rental go poof on me before I got where I was going or to the next rental (and that was a special circumstance -- my low-adventuring-level bard didn't have good horseshoes, mainly because she didn't usually need them with bard speed).

IMO, even a slow permanent flying mount should be the result of a significant amount of work. I thought the plat-coin pegasus was a reasonable amount of work for the reward (400 coins, ally faction, IIRC). The ksaravi wyvern, on the other hand, was just too easy -- 10 landings, 10 minutes work, very little risk.

The ksaravi wyvern would need a griffon-quest scale of effort added to it before we should make it a perma-flier. Okay maybe not that difficult if it's a slow, crappy flier, but it should still take a lot of effort and involve all three spheres and harvesting. Make people work for it.

...but theoretically it only worked in the one chunk, and was really part of a quest line. Am I missing something?

There may be some misunderstanding. In released VG, you were given the wyvern for the duration of the quest. It only worked in the one chunk. When you completed the quest, you lost the wyvern, so a lot of people left the quest uncompleted until they outleveled the area and didn't need the flyer any more.

So, are people talking about (a)

1. Letting the quester keep the wyvern after the quest is complete, but it still only works in Ksaravi Gulch
-or-
2. Letting the quester keep the wyvern after the quest is complete, but it works in any chunk.

I think a lot of us were operating under the assumption that we were talking about #2, but maybe all people are talking about is #1. I would have no objection to #1, though it seriously was no big deal to leave the quest open until you outleveled the area. I think #2 is what a lot of people would object to.

I know some of us were discussing #2 but only after more questing was added, and it would probably be something you did, say, every ten levels to 'upgrade it'. So it would be a continuing questline that required a player to earn it.

This is just my opinion but honestly i wouldn't mind seeing varying speed ground mounts while leveling and flying mounts not be available till level 50. Once you hit 50 you have a decent size quest anyone can do for a flying Mount then have a faster one available via raid and crafting.
