From Smedley

Dear Players, Partners and Friends,
Today, we are pleased to announce that we have been acquired by Columbus Nova, an investment management firm well known for its success with its existing portfolio of technology, media and entertainment focused companies. This means that effective immediately SOE will operate as an independent game development studio where we will continue to focus on creating exceptional online games for players around the world, and now as a multi-platform gaming company. Yes, that means PlayStation and Xbox, mobile and more!
As part of this transition, SOE will now become Daybreak Game Company. This name embodies who we are as an organization, and is a nod to the passion and dedication of our employees and players. It is also representative of our vision to approach each new day as an opportunity to move gaming forward.
So what exactly does this mean for you? It will be business as usual and all SOE games will continue on their current path of development and operation. In fact, we expect to have even more resources available to us as a result of this acquisition. It also means new exciting developments for our existing IP and games as we can now fully embrace the multi-platform world we are living in.
Our games and players are the heart and soul of our organization, and we are committed to maintaining our portfolio of online games and pushing the limits of where we can take online gaming together.
Thank you for your continued support. See you in game!
The Team at Daybreak

Wonder if this will impact the Vanguard IP at all.

That's what I was wondering. I tweeted to Smedley about it, doubt I'll get a reply.

As for SOE, If it were on fire, I wouldn't even piss on them to put it out. Maybe this new company will make things better.

I was about to post this here. I am kind of curious what they have up their sleeves.

Multi=Platform, these days, means creating a phone/tablet game and then porting it to PC/Console and charging 4 times as much.

I was just coming over to post this! Who wants to go and see if they will release the db or the server code now?
Its a long shot, but it was no shot before.

No idea what to think about this. But after reading a few forums, people seems very negative. I immediately thought about vanguard, may it live again!

Looks like SOE Live was canceled for this year. May be bad things looming already.

I'm no lawyer, but I assume most of the issue with VGOEmulator acquiring code comes from the deals with Epic - who, far as I know, did not get purchased in this deal. The database, however, is all SOE... and if they were really, really, really cool guys, they could have let us have it regardless. They chose not to then, so I won't hold my breath.

Besides, don't you guys want to place 1,000,000 NPCs around the world and write as many LUA scripts? You know you do.

Hell if that's something that can be taught, I could do that! Or if it's just copy/paste/edit some code, I could do it. I just can't write scripts from scratch.
