Add Diplomacy Dueling

Discussion in 'Gameplay Discussion' started by ARCHIVED-Mobly, Oct 29, 2012.

  1. This. So much, this. I would love to see the ability to duel other players in a game of Diplomacy.
Personally, I'd start by just implementing the feature. I wouldn't deviate from PvE rules.
So, regardless of level, whatever cards you have are cards you can use.
If a higher level wants to play a lower level, the size of their hand would be matched to the low-level, but they'd have all cards they've acquired at their disposal.
So much potential for adding this feature.
    Make it so.
    :D
  2. diplo PVP would be fun! Even without mechanics to somehow scale for levels. Players would just choose their opponents like they currently deal with NPC's. next patch?
  3. This idea has been put out on the forums before and been received very well by players. I'd like to see it implemented, if possible.
  4. +1 here! could definately be cool done right
  5. +1 too, it would be easy for a programmer.
  6. Remedio actually created a Diplomacy PVP dueling site in his free time back in November of 2011. A few of us played around with it and it was pretty fun. It was more of a little side project for him but I think he took the website down. Maybe he could post some information on it if there's a bigger outcry for it.
  7. IMO they need to work on more important things such as vulmane tails before adding something like this. Vg was not built with diplo pvp in mind and adding this will only cause problems.
  8. This would be fantastic, just got hooked on dip again and can't get enough of it. Dip duels would be great fun, perhaps putting the cards as rewards or something. Redeem dip duel points for them or some such.
  9. My idea for rewards would be to give the winner a buff and the loser a debuff. Sort of like betting on a hand of poker. Basically stats would be taken from loser and given to winner. Imagine how addictive that could be. It would be like gambling with your stats. Lots of people will hate the idea, but I like it.
  10. This is a very cool idea. :)
It would take some time to work out a thorough design, and we've got our resources committed to other goals for a while, but it's going on the "would be nice to add down the road" list.
I love seeing creative twists on existing gameplay, so by all means keep them coming!

So there would be no boxed characters set up specifically to lose to donate stats to other players? Like, say, before a raid?

While it might take some time to work out a thorough design thats properly balanced, I would imagine that there would be a lot less work in just enabling duels with diplo as it stands. If it works well enough, great. If it's totally unbalanced in favour of the first player or something similar, then people just wont participate and nothing is lost.

Port remedio's HTML. I'm sure it would port right over. lulz For real though. Remedio did this a long time ago on a website like previously stated. Shoot him a tell in game. Maybe he would be interested in letting you see it.
  13. even if there is no reward mechanic other than the satisfaction of being the winner, it works for me
  14. i think i have been asking for this since launchday
please add it :) without any real work going into it
just enable it and we will be happy
  15. To bad it can't be tied in with some type of faction gain/loss. But the more I think about it, it could be easily exploited. For example someone multi-boxing intentionally raising the faction on one character, etc. Unless it could be limited somehow to no more than 3 contests a day between the same two opponents. Or you can only diplo duel a max amount a day. Something like that. I dunno just a thought.
  16. i can imagine a dwarf and a high elf doing diplomacy about the risks of having bearded dwarf fire sorcerers in a battle.
  17. One idea instead of trying to tie in Diplomacy PvP (yes yes I know it's just a fart in the wind at the moment but....) to things like faction gain and actual game mechanics for some sort of benefit, why not just add in a simple betting mechanic where each player could place a diplomacy card up or an in game item to bet. Winner takes all.
  18. I actually don't know all the nuances and features that could potentially get in the way or be too exploitative, but looking at some more of just the positive side, I thought of some ideas.
    First
I believe this kind of implementation is well worth any effort to get working. The benefits for never-ending gameplay are huge compared to the typcial exploit-to-gain-lots-of-something-super-fast.
The weight of pro vs. con
Usually the con is always the gaining of "X" in a short amount of time. That's not always the fear or problem, but most of the time it boils down to that.
So the gain for that formula is huge compared to other straight-forward additons to the game(like a fixed quest, a new piece of armor, or new quests). Of course, everyone will feel differently on how important one thing is over another in any MMO.
Diplo PvP potentially adds enormous play and repeat play value and gaming experiences.
It's pretty much a full-fledged CCG already in Vanguard. That is enormous, if you think about it. There are many games existing, long term, as having only the ability to be a CCG.
    Added potential(s)
    • This is a chance to think in many more ways than work>reward ways. When I used to play Magic:The Gathering with friends, we never had rewards, of course, and it was really fun because of how the system worked.
    • There's the potential to add infinitely more cards.
    • Systems for players to make their own cards(set around requirements or rules or any number of addtional systems).
    • Multiple rulesets for different conditions.
    • Huge rankings to display
    • Specialty Diplo rewards to win: Trophy cups to display in player houses.
    • Player Studio is in the pipeline, so player-made furniture, Diplo-rewards or even player-made cards may be possible to use and get approved and used as prizes or for sale in the cash-shop.
    • Think Magic:The Gathering and all of its natural possibilities that could be translated over. That game has something like a freaking-billion cards now and many of them work in 100 different ways, depending on what other cards you use them with.
    • Prizes could be set around a system similar to how SOE implemented player-made dungeons in EQ2, and that could be an all-in-one system for earning PvP points to spend in the PvP section of the cash-shop, in addition to weaving in Player-Studio.
    • And a multitude of more ideas.

This also has the potential for players to run with it on their own. Think fishing. Fishing allows players to create tournaments and so on. This has the same potential.

    Let's hear more great ideas
This thread has become awesome in a short period of time, with great ideas.
I'd love to hear and share more ideas for this. I know the Vanguard community could come up with some amazing stuff. Let's hear it!
  19. this is so funny. i wish i would have seen this thread earlier. this is a no PVP game...period...you PVErs cant handle losing...maybe when there is 10 healthy servers(laughs) they can implement some lame diplo pvp after the NOT GOING TO HAPPEN anytime in the near future pvp server. rediculous
