I for one am revisiting the game with wife and a RL friend before they close it all down. No need for double xp, seriously, maybe after lvl 45 or so. There is so much content to explore and enjoy pre-50. Surely the lack of content higher end was the reason the game never really had the staying power... At least let those of us who want to lose the double xp buff. For me, VG was one of the most fun MMO's I've played. I grew up on EQ, but my heart belonged to VG. Sadly there simply wasn't enough to keep me entertained. VG's crafting/harvesting and crazy ideas like Diplomacy were well thought out and I really hope they pass some of the ideas through to EQ Next. VG was the only game I maxed out a crafter and actually enjoyed it... Since there is no incentive financially to keep it alive, how about refund all those poor sods who have Subbed for 6months or 12 months and make the game truly F2P. No gold required items etc. I've seen hundreds of players on recently in various zones and been having a blast. Thanks at least for the positive feedback and attempts to go out in style...

Nope, and it becomes a memory. It's a shame really because it is a fun game with some unique systems once you get into it. But then again, this is SOE - the GameKiller. Any excuses that may come out about why they won't allow private servers are just that. In today's day and age of technology, there's no reason not to attempt to actually be the first company to keep an MMO alive in this manner, but of course we'll never see that happen, despite the positive press and customer good will that would foster. These game companies want to keep pushing "Games as a Service" as the future of gaming. Well, we got news for you - if things like this continue to be the norm, you will find that the GaaS concept will fail.

I'm going to try the game for the first time tonight or tomorrow, in an attempt to enjoy this gem from the key EQ developer before it disappears forever... but it's alright - he is working on a new project so hopefully that will turn out well! I am very much looking forward to giving this game a go as I've heard a lot of good things about it!
its ok, at least soe management has been consistent by breaking promise after promise. please do us a favor and stop calling it a sunset. its more of a old yeller moment
Define development. Because I think some of us may define that word differently than SOE. Does it mean that there will be no more content of any sort? Does it mean that there will be no more patches of any sort, even if the server is totally borked and unplayable? What does "no further development" actually mean?
I truly believe they are sucking every last bit of air out of the balloon before disgarding it. And new places? Did I miss something, I thought it was only the one or are you including Cave of Wonders as well?
I am pretty sure they mean that not a single minute will be devoted to content, fixes or any other aspect of this game other than potentially fixing a borked server restart. July sounded nice but for all intents and purposes the game is toast now for many of us.
Dear mate, it exactly means this: SOE will not bother itself with dying game anymore, no one from SOE looks after Vanguard, no help expected... This company will just and only do one last thing - closing all servers down 31.7.2014, including Forums etc. This approach is pretty dangerous for SOE! How are we motivated to start any other MMOs with them??? Absolutely no guarantees this will never happen again, since this situation already happened with SWG...SOE must know trust is very hardly earned thing and one should deserve it. It is very thin line between being a friend and being an enemy....

That sounds much more fun, allow people to see everything so the game goes out with a bang. Like heroic chars on eq, or some npc tha can give you an upgrade to 55. For many people they want to see the endgame but they wont make it in time before the end.
Addition: i mean just the xp, to 50 or 55. put an npc somewhere out of the way (not on iod). For gear still need to pay for unlockers if you use yellow etc. Or buy some crafted. But it will allow you to explore the low level dungeons to the boss or go to raids.
