Nonkiting solo class

    Hello all,

I'm giving Vanguard another shot... I played previously a few years ago as a Disciple, but never made it past the newbie island. I'd like to try again.

I understand the game has a fairly low population and therefore I will likely be soloing a lot, which is fine. In other MMORPGs, I usually play healers, so Disciple is obviously a good choice. However, I remember not really enjoying it, so I'd like to try something new. It seems most other threads on this topic recommend the person play a Disciple, which is why I figured I'd create my own.

My main criteria is that I don't enjoy kiting. I don't mind spell casters, but I hate running around to solo. Does that eliminate all the casters in this game? I also do not enjoy shape shifters because I like to look at my character and not the same old bear or wolf skin, so I assume that disqualifies shaman?

I feel like Paladin or Death Knight could be cool, but I really hate tanking in groups because I hate being expected to know what I'm doing, when I've never done a dungeon or something before.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Most of the casters can "optionally" kite. A druid can just heal through a lot of stuff. A psi can keep things distracted for a while, although more powerful mobs eventually break loose and chase it. Necro is a pet class. Shamans can shut off their animal form but keep the buff.

I don't like kiting, shaman forms, or disciples either. I do like tanking and most likely the worst thing you'd run in to is simply not knowing where to go. In terms of mob technique, there's not really a whole lot to be concerned about until higher levels. Most of it would be pulls and positioning. There are occasional power checks, but it's hard for me to really rate these any more because for one, easy to find better gear has been sprinkled throughout the leveling path and for another, the xp bonuses that most people use make them too high for the content. If you do not take dungeon quests at exactly the level they come up and everyone else does the same, there's not much to it. Also short staff them; with three or even only two people you can do a lot. Otherwise, it seems to be just a playground.

I don't know much about other games, but the nice thing about Vanguard healers is they all attack and none of them are flimsy. From a solo perspective I've enjoyed healers more than anything and they can be fun in groups, except for the ones that are overpowered for the content and no one's really taking any damage--you can go to a dps mode but that wouldn't make any difference either. In these groups you could just stand there and watch.

The Shaman "form buff" has two separate components - the buff itself and the form illusion. After casting the "form buff", you can cancel the illusion part of the buff cast and keep the main character buff itself. I also prefer to play my wolf/bear Shaman in their humanoid form, so that is what I do.

Both the Shaman and the Cleric can be among the best solo-survivable characters in VG, and both can be leveled up as a hybrid caster/melee type if so desired. They can stand toe-to-toe with 3 and 4 dots mobs, even when they are 3-4 levels higher than the character in most cases.

My Shaman is currently level 30 (wolf) and my Cleric 34 (death affinity) and both solo at survivability+performance levels that make my many other level characters feel **** by comparison. I have all classes leveled to the 20-34 range currently, except for Warrior and Rogue. My favorite caster to play solo is the Necromancer.

Never kited with the sorc or never solo'd it?

I solo'd two warriors up to Dargun's Tomb level and tanked it just fine. I've known others who solo'd rogues to 55.

Tbh disciple is one of the best solo classes and much fun! Like all other classes you have to get them to a certain lvl to unlock the unique abilities. Not 100% about disc, but must be around lvl 12 when your play style dramatically changes and you get addicted to disc....
