May you always see the sunrise...
Greetings all!
I have played Vanguard since the end of beta and have never been able to stop playing until the announcement was made. I wish I had found this sooner as it would have helped me find a reason to login. I only hope that this emu can be successful. I've played ArcheAge in Korea, Russia and am now in the NA alpha and as much as I love it, I find myself constantly comparing it to Vanguard.

Yeah I have followed AA since it was Moons wet dream. He stole a hell of a lot of his ideas from EQ1 and Vanguard but never gave them any credit. Unfortunately it still has that Korean MMO taint. Hard to get past the totally odd cultural issues of women sounding like 12 y.o. girls, non-stop pvp, and the extremely odd cartoony characters, and a 1000 other none-western cultural oddities.
Moon has basically mixed L2 with Vanguard.
What has been interesting, even pvp-wise is the water based functionality and combat, as the boats have decent physics, harpoons, cannons, fishing trawlers. But watching people pull out and put back galleons from their pocket in open water in seconds is kind of lame. The rest is cool though. It makes it funny to watch the who can spawn and despawn their boats the quickest kind of a joke.
The criminal system is kind of interesting but the penalties are still a joke.
I have been in the Alpha and I am still making my mind up. Too easy to level, and no penalties for dieing, well aside from some small loss of labor. It is still a 100% PVP game, and you still have the assholes ganking purely for the grief of it.
Gold spammer and botting is out of control.
Land is a premium and the best plots quickly get taken by hackers and cheaters for exorbitant resale.

Ahh, cool. I'm in Sacto proper. Currently working a gig downtown.
Juries still out for me. I have been spending most of my time in Vanguard so still trying out AA. I guess it will come down to if I can find a nice group of people and get past PVP.

Was never a big PvPer myself, but I loosened up while playing Pirates of the Burning Sea. While PvP was always around you, you still had some choices about whether to participate or do something else. ArcheAge, is not exactly the same, but it is possible to avoid PvP about 85-90% of the time if you so desire and not miss out on a huge chunk of game. That said, the death penalty is a complete joke so if you do participate, you really have nothing to lose. Finding a good group is the real key. With just the alpha, we have the Eve crowd which brought the politics, some bad & some hilarious, to the table and we now have beta with all the hoppers. I definitely recommend running a few laps in it, but be aware that you don't really start experiencing what the game fully has to offer until the 25-30 range.
