Bug 158: (Blackstorm) If you open any game window (e...
Bug ID : 158 - If you open any game window (e... Bug Date : 2015/04/08 07:58:26 Assigned To : Blackstorm Priority : Low Category : VGClient Sub-Category : Graphics: Other Severity : Standard Reproducible : Every timeDetails:
If you open any game window (e.g. map or character) and then close it, NPC names don't display properly in the area that was covered by the window. If you rotate your character, the area of messed up names moves with the screen. It seems to be some kind of redraw problem. The graphics in the client area redraw fine, so you can see the NPCs and the vases and trees and such, just not names.

BS: Saw the same issue on my client, when you login, the IG text is above all the content. I don't know if it's a server issue but that seem to be a client issue. -> when you resize your window, the bug disappear.
edit: the IG text is above all the content and each opened window (same closed) mask the text.
edit2 : from Bug_id 159
"I can see the names of NPCs through solid objects such as walls and the ground. That certainly wasn't true in release, but I don't think it was true in the emu until fairly recently."
I think these 2 issues are linked.

If you chunk the problem goes away, also if you tab out of fullscreen and go back in. /flush [all] doesn't do anything to fix it.

On this screen we can see the npc names through the character
On this screen what append after you open a window and close it. (the ncp's name has been partially cleared, we can see also names of some foes through the stone)

This seems to have stopped happening to me. Are you still seeing it, Blackstorm?

Hi, ohhh yes... always..
For now i am just resizing my screen... but for beta and after that should be cool to not have it^^
I should be on W10 this week.. maybe that will correct my issue (if it's a drivers problem)

Yes, this thing doesn't appear to be anything we can fix, even if there was something wrong. I doubt we will ever support client patching, but someone else might.

Here is what I did that I suspect fixed it for me (though it could just have been a coincidence) --
Recently I had been having some annoying flickering whenever I was near bodies of water. I tried a bunch of things to get rid of it, but nothing seemed to work. So I went through all my graphics selections and dumbed them down to mid-level (they had all been set to maximum quality). I also went through all the 3D settings in NVIDIA control panel and set them to what I though was reasonable (mostly to allow the game to control the setting, if that was available).
That fixed the water problem, so I put the in-game settings back to max quality. The water problem did not re-appear. Neither did the funky name problem. Also, a problem I had been having in released VG for years went away[1]. My hypothesis is that re-doing the settings after installing a new driver worked something out that had been been causing problems.
[1] For a long time (as in years) whenever I chunked, the display would wash out a little bit, like I had set gamma too high. /flush would fix it. So I hotkeyed /flush and almost every time I chunked I would CTRL+F to fix it. Since I tweaked the graphics, I haven't had to flush after chunking.

Was this the same over-blown brightness as High Dynamic Range + Tone Mapping? I literally cannot switch that on without everything looking like a circa 1990's LCD laptop display that I just spilled water on.
