But still to this day I will say that the 2 years of complete abandonment of the game and zero support, after Silius' famous Road Map letter in 2009, is what killed this game off and started a snowball that would never be stopped.
Oh I'm not saying they are blameless. You are absolutely correct, they could have dove in day-1 and started fixing things, re-writing that net/security code they claim is so outdated back in 2009. Then today, the posted excuse might have been that the game simply doesn't pay for itself. I am no fanboy, I just see a lot of product death around me and live with that fear every day of my professional career. I'm just hoping for people not in the software biz, maybe that sheds a little light (though no comfort) on the corporate decision making process.

Read through that sunset announcement thread; so many uninformed people who have no idea that SOE actually needs to make money, not provide services for free, forever

Yeah there was and still are a lot of passionate players, a lot of that was anger and frustration directed at SOE but you are right, a lot do not know what it takes to run an MMO, the overheads, wages, servers, licensing, legalities etc, it all adds up and towards the end, I believe SOE when they say VG ran at a loss and it doesn't surprise me in the slightest, I just wish they had of pulled their finger out years ago, before it started going downhill and all of this could have been avoided.

But no use dwelling on the past, I am just very thankful that we have good people with talents like you and the team to help save the game and continue it on past the SOE sunset

Tick Tock --

We have hit the dreaded 14-day mark. This leaves us 2 more weeks to discover all we need to know about Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Our efforts here have been amazing so far, I am really looking forward to working with all of you in the months/years to come to rebuild this world to it's former glory (and then some).

While we have much work yet to complete in these last 14 days, I urge you VG fans to take some time to just play the game for yourself, enjoy VG one last time before it's gone - because it will be a long time before our game is "playable". Soak up that knowledge, because we're going to need it down the road.

The reality is truly sinking in now; that this world is really going away.

Is everyone ready?

I know I'm not.

1 more raid next Sunday and then that's it

I asked on the official forums for an exact time of the server being switched off but no response yet. It would be kind of sad to miss it after supporting the game for so many years and being in Australia, it will most likely be early or late for us.

Do they still do the nightly server shutdowns? That could be a (sadly) appropriate time.

Yes, every night at 2200 for me. (Australian Eastern Standard Time GMT +10) but I think that is early in the morning for the US, so shutting the game down before the final day starts may draw some bad publicity, but it's not something that would surprise me, since SOE have done worse to their customers before! lol

Bad publicity? You mean, like destroying a game so many people enjoy after promising it was not going to be shelved?

I was trying to be diplomatic and not burst into a rant like I usually do when I think of those three letters...SOE. I have never hated a company more in my life lol
