I remember a long time ago I found this and posted it on my blog. I got it from some other post, so I do not claim any title to it. :geek:

There is a entry in a sysconfig file within Vanguard that controls the memory usage of the game. It is generally set to a measly 32 megabytes of ram, but you can change it and allow more ram to be used by Vanguard. I am unsure if this is still a thing or even if it still uses this entry, but I thought I would provide the details here for anyone that is still having some issues with running the game.

Back in the day, memory was not as plentiful as it is today on computers. Back when Vanguard was live, 4 gigabytes was common but today we see many computers running with 8 gigabytes or more of ram. So Should we use more to run Vanguard? I will let others make that determination.

This file controls the modified Unreal game engine that vanguard uses. There is a section in that file that reads:

[Engine.GameEngine]
CacheSizeMegs=32

When Vanguard patches it will always restore the sysconfig.ini file and set the environment for the game engine to run in a 32 Meg sized environment.

The game will run much better in a larger environment, 256 megs rocks. I wonder if you could set it to 512 megs or more?

Here’s how we do it:

Locate the file sysconfig.ini in the games bin folder of Vanguard. It can be stored in several locations, so either search for it or poke around in the bin folder in Vangaurd

The game will launch with the game engine able to use the 256 MB environment and you should be able to increase settings accordingly. This is probably the single largest mod affecting game performance. Enjoy!
Vanguard fanatic. Always looking for new ways to live in the world of Telon :shock:
