Flying Mounts
Okay so. I think most VG players agree that flying mounts: A. Have their place in the game and B. Should be difficult to get.
There were some flying mounts that were released after F2P, most of them were chest rewards, some of them were store bought. I really really liked these mounts for their appearance. But I don't like the way they were obtained.
So if we want to keep these mounts, we need to find a way to keep them in game without making the content trivial. So let's throw up some ideas of what could be done.
1. A lot of these mounts had attachments that allowed them to go the speed of a raid griffon if you had a raid griffon or similar mount. Allowing people to buy them off a merchant that are ONLY available to those that earned the quested mounts is one idea.
2. Another idea is to make them random drops from certain high end mobs.
3. Then we could always make questlines for them if that's possible.
4. Make them an alternative turn in for griffon, wyvern or POTA mounts. Could also trade them in for coins like the pegasus mount.
Any other thoughts on this?

5. We write brand new questline's for them?!?
edit: Can Jakkal have her whale mount and restrict it only to her toons and she can never change the appearance?

Re: Flying Mounts
2, 3, and 4 are ideal to me. All 3 can be done, and offer great alternatives to coin purchasing. I'd still like to offer "rented flights" on simple mounts, just to aid in travel.
Re: Flying Mounts
All sounds good to me. One addition though, cannot just buy the fastest mount out there. You have to go through griffon raid f.i. - maybe can get mounts from drops, but they wouldn't fly at top speed unless you went through griffon raid. (just picking griffon raid as an example...maybe some other way)
Anyways, saying I'm all for #1.

Re: Flying Mounts
Can appearance slots be added to the quested flying mounts? Then the other mounts can just be 'skins' that cover up the quested version. (Can't be used at all other than that?)
Re: Flying Mounts
One thing that was discussed on the official forum that I really liked was to change the ending of Ksaravi Gulch quest line so the area restricted wyvern you get will be unlocked when you complete the last quest, so you can fly it anywhere but it's really slow. That would give people a flying mount at low levels comparable to Randolph.
Re: Flying Mounts
I would definitely be in favor of that, I know that questline is rather long and arduous by itself (for that level). And if that flier is slow enough (perhaps even slower than the shadowhound/unicorn) then it wouldn't hurt the game too much either.
Another thing I just remembered, people on the live forums also asked for Crafting and Diplo to get flying mounts. Perhaps if we could put in a crafting quest for a mount, and a diplo quest for a mount, they could get one as well.
The clockwork dragon would be a great one for the crafters, as it *looks* like something they would have to build. I could even imagine making a quest where this was intended to be built as a weapon against something, and the crafter decides against it, as the one commissioning it could be found out to be a real jerk or something intending to do nefarious things with the 'weapon'.
