Interested in playing and or doing raid content in RIFT?
If anyone here is interested in RIFT, I have a group of RL friends that are leveling up currently. My plan is for the group is to go through the level 50 - 10 man raid content and if we have enough members do the level 50 - 20 man raid content (next step would be to do the level 60 raid content).
As of now our group is 8 or so people, ranging from casual (playing 1-2 times a week) to playing 3-5 times a week or more. We are an older mature crowd (30-40 years), very friendly, create a happy environment for everyone, have a voice server and just like to have social multi-player fun with these sort of games. Send me a PM if you are interested - Server = Deepwood - Faction = Defiants (you can also transfer your characters for free). Few of us know the game pretty well and others have never played an MMO before (this has been lots of fun teaching them and seeing their experiences).
Rift can be very casual and or be hardcore, it really has some very flexible systems in it that allow you to do a multitude of different things / objectives with their queuing system. It also allows you to completely change your characters play style and or develop a new one. Very worthy game that I don't think gets enough praise for what they have built.

Re: Interested in playing and or doing raid content in RIFT?
The class system is fun, and they have added some neat sounding new roles to the archetypes.
I got a rogue to 60 and then ended up burning out doing the Expert dungeons (I wasn't in a guild so I was doing them through the group finder).
The community is surprisingly nice at end-game, not something you see very often these days, but unfortunately the game's "meta" and I didn't really get along.
Storm Legion Expert dungeons are most popularly run with a very large bias for ranged characters and I much preferred to run my rogue as melee (Blademaster, because I love the tempo of going through the skills back and forth). A goodly number of the encounters were trivialized by being ranged so of course everyone in the dungeon finder leaned towards it. While the game's class system makes it really easy to switch back and forth from ranged to melee (assuming you have half-decent gear) it ended up being that I could only really go melee on a handful of the dungeons because of the way the groups handled the encounters.
I never had a chance to try out the earlier raids, but from what I had heard they were a lot of fun. Best of luck to you folks in tackling them!

Archeage is better. Just saying.
Re: Interested in playing and or doing raid content in RIFT?
Heh, well I tried Archage and it does not even have a reverse Y axis on the mouse. Something that has been built into Cryengine from the start, is literally game breaking to those that can't enable it, and has not been changed for 3+ months; to me this shows little to no care for your user base. Take a peek at the amount of people that are pissed off over this and those that want $150 refund for their pre-alpha / beta entrances.
Not sure about the game but to me this shows developer incompetence. Plus I don't think there are raids that rival WoW in Archage, no game that I know of that is currently out can say this except RIFT.

Ugh. I bought into the beta and I am honestly beyond disappointing. While the class system is really neat (mage tanks, cool!) the quest system is boring, the crafting is boring, and the world seems to very much lack in soul.
Not to mention you're punished if you try to adventure off of the quest line.
For a game that goes on and on about how 'sandbox' it is it feels awfully linear. The crafting system is your standard "collect X items, set quantity, hit craft and wait" that you get from most Korean games, which seems silly to me when the player driven economy is supposed to be so much of the game.
Honestly, unless you're able to subsist primarily on PvP I'd recommend avoiding ArcheAge. Or at the very least, waiting until it's release dso you can try it for free.

No Y axis? Seriously?
And no change for 3+ months? Its been in place for 2 years in Korea, there have been massive changes since it first launched, and for a year or so in Russia. Not sure what you are talking about. Trion is just westernizing it for the most part.
Its got some pretty unique functionality, especially the way in which they deal with pvp and the whole open water pirate/privateer functionality.

Its definitely pvp. The real game generally does not start until level 50, same as Rift and most other games these days. And the pvp is massively more elegant that any other game. Its still a bit carebear when it comes to no penalty for deaths, unless you lose a trade pack.
The crafting is pretty basic, but then so is every other game except vg. Yet it still has elaborate recipe models, extensive resources, complex rares and hard to get combinations. I recommend you want some of the twitches that cover all that the game encompasses, it is quite elaborate.

I don't doubt that it is definitely a great place for PvP players. Unfortunately, I was caught by the very loud proclamations of sandbox and comments that there was more than just killing other players. While it is good to hear that the scope of crafting I'd large, it does suck that it your standard click and wait fare.
So far t he only crafting systems I've had any enjoyment with have been vanguard's, eq2's, and ffxiv's. It's always been a shame though that none of them could compete with dungeon great in the end.

I'm in beta. Granted, it's not very far (level 14), I can say as many have proclaimed, the questing in this game is horrendous. There's no point. I feel the need to just skip the text on every quest and do the (so far) VERY simple task and complete it. I will say, it does have some unique features such as the pirating, PvP continent, and few other small things (scuba diving, farms, etc). However, I don't feel like I have a meaning or purpose to the world.
Don't get me wrong, the graphics are great, the class system is cool so far, but overall the game is very bland. Also, from what I read, there is very little to no raiding at end game. It's all about the PvP. Not my thing. At least in Rift (when I played, before the expansion and level cap increase), the raids were challenging and took some coordination to complete. I can't speak for it now, but Rift was a good game and I would say it was far better than ArcheAge is currently.
