However, the word is that SOE is entertaining picking it up if he can generate enough interest in it and generate his own funding (hence kickstarter, no VG debacle repeats intended).
where did you hear that SoE might be picking it up?

It is a heard it through the grapevine thing. A person in my guild reported having read it on a discussion forum- which one, I haven't a clue. There are two versions of this story though. One version is that BMcQ repaired some bridges while working on EQNext. Another version is that he left SOE on bad terms again. I am not sure if either version is gospel (thats why I referred to it as "the word"), but if memory serves they weren't on the best of terms when SOE bought Vg to begin with. If you believe the rumors to be true about SOE's motivations for purchasing it to cut down on the competition, then it isn't a far stretch to believe it could happen again. I personally am doubting that EQ Next is going to be a flaming success for two reasons: 1) It is going to be another FTP model 2: Its looks like a WoW GW2 hybrid. But hey its all rumors. Just be safe and don't preorder?

ahh I see. I don't believe SoE is even remotely interested in another one of Brad's start ups. The game he's trying to make is for such a small niche community I see no reason why it would pose any real threat to SoE's portfolio.

I think it'll work. My issue is that they announced it too early and have shown too little of the actual EQN portion to keep people interested. The whole landmark move is a brilliant design decision to basically beta all of the systems required for EQN, but I need to see more before I'm convinced. But, it's F2P so I'm not too worked up over it.

I mainly wish a) SoE had invested the time and money into VG that it deserved, and b) that Brad didn't screw up VG in the first place o_O. If Pantheon is ever completed it'll be much smaller in scale and scope than VG, which is a shame.

I recently got into Landmark beta due to the whole thing with Yogscast game failing and them sending me a key.

The idea of Landmark is good, players test their tools for them and even make content for them. Players can even make money off this themselves. Creative people get the plus here. Combat looks like it could be interesting once it's completed.

The negative is just what has been said: It's Free to Play, or in other words, Gouge the Players. It's going to be worse then their other games (EQ2).

I have already been on the store. You can buy things like: Increased inventory, resources used for building and crafting, and even stuff for your building lots, including full buildings. For example someone was selling some house for 800 SC ($8).

This is unfortunate because I liked the idea of EQN story blocks and content being created by players to help keep new things coming. But the F2P cash shop just kill the games for me. Everything you will want is going to be locked in the cash shop.

It's looking gorgeous at the moment. They're showing progress and my hopes are certainly higher than they were a year ago.
