Specialization Quest

At level 11 you are given a quest allowing you to choose a specialization within you parent tradeskill. Artificers can pick Minerologist or Carpenters, Outfitters can pick Leather worker or Tailor, and Blacksmiths can pick Armor Smith or Weapon Smith. Once you pick a specialization, or sooner if you know which route you plan to take before hand, you should set the option that you do not choose to negative (the – button on the right of the bar on the skills window). This will push your skill in that other type down to 0 and allow you to put those points back into the two skill types you will need (your parent type and your specialization type). Do not leave points in the type you didn’t specialize in, or you will only hurt your ability to craft items of your specialization as well as delay when you learn new skills.

You may change specializations later on if you choose, but you will lose all recipes, including special dropped rare recipes if you do. If you change within your parent class, such as Tailoring to Leatherworking, you will not lose any skill points but you will need to change the direction of your skills to drive them in the right direction. If you change to another trade entirely, like tailoring to carpenter, you start over at level 1 with 0 skills.

Tier Quests, Recipe Quests, Continental Styles Quests

They are all basically the same thing after level 11. These are the quests that you must complete in order to learn recipes each tier for each continent. You will not need to do the novice continental style quest for your home continent.

PLEASE NOTE: the amateur (level 11) quest is NOT the same thing as the specialization quest. These both take place at level 11, but they are two separate things. Many people assume that because they chose their specialization they are now amateur crafters and should have new recipes, only to be sadly disappointed, not to mention confused.

The Tier quests take place at level 11, 21, 31 and so on, and allow you to learn more recipes from your trainers. Along with the completion of the quest, you gain a new title. From Novice, you go to Amateur, Apprentice, and upward through the ranks until you reach the top of your profession. Expect your crafting profession to change as you increase in level through each ranks, with the process slowly changing and becoming even more complex. For the tier quests you need to do them for each continent to gain recipes on those continents.

Also note: when you are asked to craft an item for these quests, these are not work orders. You must supply your own materials, so be prepared!

Along with unlocking recipes, completing each tier quest gives you 100 continental artisan faction (50 for foreign lands), as well as decent amount of crafting experience.

Note: With the new displaying of all recipes, you will end up seeing recipes that are level 18, 19, 20, etc that require the Apprentice Quest which you can't do till level 21. The reason is, these are not intended to be given to you till level 21, they display the lower levels so that when you do get them at level 21, they are much easier to do than if they would have been marked as level 21 recipes. I know its confusing but they were not intended to be given till you are Apprentice level (and same with later ones).

Amateur Quests (level 11-20)

You will need 100 Artisan Faction for that continent to start the quest, and 200 Artisan Faction to obtain recipes.

Kojan Amateur
Locate Karenda Bluewine on the westernmost pier in Dallerjuba Village, north across the bay from Tanvu. He asks you to make two sets of three easy items. You need some tin ore, and use the "special recipe" for tin ingots and sheets for the quest.

Qalian Amateur -- Find Narijar Daldan at Dark Horse Downs (it's not far south of Lomshir, you'll see it on your map.) She'll ask you for 2 Qalian Metal Armguards and 2 Qalian Metal Blades (if you're a weaponsmith). Bring some tin ore. There are no utility vendors here, so bring enough of your own. The closest location with a utility vendor is Lomshir.

Thestran Amateur - Find Resanna Graywing in Three Rivers by the forge. She’ll ask you to make 3 Thestran Sabatons and 3 Thestran Blades. The boots are made from two Tin Sheets and the blades from one Tin Ingot. Bring some tin ore. There are no utility vendors here, so bring enough of your own.

Apprentice Quests (Level 21-30)

You will need 200 Artisan Faction for that continent to start the quest, and 300 Artisan Faction to obtain recipes.

Qalian Apprentice-- Find Valer Thanul in Ahgram (Go to the center of the city down the large street. The exact location of the Master Blacksmith you are looking for is -38431, -301, 1824 in Ahgram (-14,-11)) She'll send you to Carul in Lomshir to get recipes for the things she wants-- the NPC's name is actually Aslak Carul is at location 16589, -8194, 7453 in Lomshir (-15,-9) so don't run around trying to /tar Carul. Aslak Carul will proceed to give you 3 recipes in a NON-quest format… there will be no clickies in the dialog… you will right click on the NPC and receive the recipes immediately. They will go into your special recipe sections. Iron Ingot (Refining), Iron Short Haft, and Iron Small Hilt (both Finishing), so be sure to have at least 6 iron ore on you. Take the items back to Valer in Ahgram. Reward: T3 Recipe access, Resonating Powder of Rejuvination or Renewal, 10,000 crafting XP. +50(or 100) Qalian Artisans

Kojani Apprentice-- Talk to Kimaka Rett in Martok. He'll send you to Lakash Daykete, the thoroughly unpleasant master blacksmith in Ca'ial Brael, to get the recipes for the stuff he wants you to make. Bring at least 6 iron ore and use the recipes she gives you to make, for weaponsmiths, 2 metal short hafts and 4 metal small hilts. Return to Kimaka in Martok for the turn in. (See notes on Qalian Apprentice quest for odd details.) Reward: T3 Recipe access, Resonating Powder of Rejuvination or Renewal, 10,000 crafting XP. +50(or 100) Kojan Artisans

Thestran Apprentice-- See Grodek in New Targonor. He'll send you to Carind Seaforge in Bordinar's Cleft to get the recipes for some things he wants you to make. Once you talk to Carind, you can make the necessary 1 metal short haft and 5 metal small hilts-- but make sure you have at least 6 iron ore with you. Return to Grodek in New Targ to give him your shiny new hafts and hilts and voila Reward: T3 Recipe access, Resonating Powder of Rejuvination or Renewal, 10,000 crafting XP. +50(or 100) Thestran Artisans

Guide blacksmith lvl 31 tier quests all continents walkthrough

https://web.archive.org/web/20070702200 ... hp?t=21279

Meta: Qalia , Blacksmith , Armorsmith , Thestra , Weaponsmith , Tier 3 , Initiate , Kojan , Ahgram , New Targonor , Martok , Pankor Zhi , Konarthi Point , Ca'ial Brael , Veenax Garrison

OK after finding a lot of nothing via search and asking myself through chats, here are the complete walktroughs to all Blacksmith Initiate Quests on all three continents. I am a Varanjari Armorsmith myself, lvl31 atm, so I cannot say for sure, that this works out for all other players also.

General Info: If you lack faction to start your quests, grind faction in Tawar Galan for Kojan, Southwatch in Thestra or Refugees Camp in Qalia. There are other Outposts, those were the ones I used. For Thestra and Qalia you can also join a Crafting Society. There are three each, of which you can join one. Do workorders for them, you get 10 faction each. Remember that you can fasttrack faction gains by doing single workorders or only finish one of a set or batch and turn them in.
Pyrite Ore can either be mined or much easier, especially when you lack the mining skill, be obtained through a broker in Qalia or Thestra.
The Qalian and Kojan quests can be finished well under an hour, the Thestran one will take longer, since it's a long way to Konarthi, but if you bind smart, the way back is short. I myself bind in Martok port, where the porter and a bank are just under 30secs away.

Qalia
----------

Prerequisites:
- at least 400 Qalia Artisans faction
- -7999 with Hathor and Pankor Zhi (or see hint)
- 3 Pyrite Ore

I talked to the BS trainer, Valer Thanul, in Ahgram after turning lvl31, which then gave me the quest called " A True Qalian Crafter ". In it she told me to go to Pankor Zhi to get some inspirations. Not having it on my map I mouseovered and found Pankor Zhi to be the chunk next to Hathor Zhi. So I went via Lomshir to Pankor Zhi, the actual city, where I spend the better half of an hour to search for something to inspire me, nada though. PZ is a nice place to take a stroll, at least if you're a varanjar which are KOS to nothing but Dwarves . Anyways what you need to do is, go to Hathor Zhi entrance and travel south down the road. Stay in the valley! Go past the Bloodletter Arena to the big ruins with the wide stairs. In proximity to those (a tad east I think, but well in viewing distance) you find a burned down tent (for the outfitter iniate quest inspiration) and a handy small ballista, which will inspire you. Use it and 30secs later you get the recipes for pyrite ingot and the spear head. Return to Ahgram, build three pyrite ingots and then the spear heads. Turn them in and congratulations to your initiate crafters title and a s***load of new recipes.

Reward:
- Qalian Smith's Pendant, Earring lvl30, +5 Metallurgy, +5 Blacksmithing, +3 Armorsmithing, +3 Weaponsmithing
- 50 Qalia Artisans Faction

Hint: Hathor Zhi faction can be gained by killing mobs just north of the HZ gate and Pankor Zhi faction is supposedly gained by doing diplomacy in Lomshir, which I cannot guarantee, since Pankor Zhi has no trouble with Halgarad. I also believe it's possible to get to the ballista from the Hathor Zhi Altar, where you can either evac to or ressurrect to. If you get guard or npc aggro try to get to the chunk border south to get rid of it. PZ guards won't aggro you, if you stay clear of the stairs.

--------------------------------------------------

Kojan
----------

Prerequisites:
- at least 400 Kojan Artisans faction
- -7999 with Ca'ial Brael and Martok
- 3 Pyrite Ore

Unlike the first three tier quests for Kojan, at least for the foreigner like me, you don't have to go to Martok to get the quest. Go to Ca'ial Brael to Waltay Bajan, the Blacksmith Instructor there (located in the House near the crafting plateau and get the quest called " A True Kojani Crafter ". He will then send you to Veenax Garrison near Martok to get inspired yet again. Head over to Martok Port, follow the norther shoreline (swin past the the rock that stands in the way) and head to Veenax Garrison. Even I as an outsider had the map location, so I guess all others will also. Enter Veenax Garrison and go around the center building. On the back side you'll find a cauldron you can study, so do that and be inspired enough to know pyrite ingots and spear heads now!
Return to Ca'ial Brael, craft those ingots and spear heads, and welcome to the initiate Kojan world and yet again a bunch of new recipes, in case you haven't done any other iniate quests.

Reward:
- Kojani Forgeworkers's Stud, Earring lvl30, +5 Metallurgy, +5 Blacksmithing, +3 Armorsmithing, +3 Weaponsmithing
- 50 Kojan Artisans Faction

Hint: If you got to 400 faction in Kojan as an outsider, you probably did so in Tawar Galan, which rewards 10 faction for each workorder for Ca'ial Brael and Martok. If not, 21 one piece WO are done quite fast.

--------------------------------------------------

Thestra
----------

Prerequisites:
- at least 400 Thestra Artisans faction
- -7999 with Halgarad and Dakhnarg (or see hint)
- 3 Pyrite Ore

Head over to New Targonor's crafting district and talk to Godrek, the BS instructor to get " A True Thestran Crafter ". He will send you to Konarthi Point, which is located SE of Halgarad or east of Dakhnarg. I leave it up to everyone how to get across half the continent, being lvl21 adventurer, I headed up north through Shrine of Flames, took an immediate right after entering Three Rivers chunk and followed the river through Spider Bluffs and Forest's Heart, fairly easy ride, only lvl21-24 2d-3d aggro mobs which can easily be avoided. When you enter Leth Nurae chunk, get back on the road and head through to Veskal's Exhange and further on through Valley of Heroes. Pass south through Halgarad once you reach it, and turn left at the bottom of the hill, follow the road all the way to Konarthi Point.
In Konarthi Point locate the Finishing Taskmaster. Right behind him is a Brazier, which will inspire you to craft pyrite ingots and pyrite spear heads. Build them and return to Godrek in New Targonor to receive your new title Initiate Blacksmith and tons of new receipes. Congratulations, Initiate Blacksmith.

Reward:
- Thestran Metalworkers's Ring, Ring lvl30, +5 Metallurgy, +5 Blacksmithing, +3 Armorsmithing, +3 Weaponsmithing
- 50 Thestra Artisans Faction

Hint: For those filhty, lice infected beardwearers, commonly known as dwarves, which are not welcomed in either Halgarad or Dakhnarg, you might try to sneak yourself over the mountains to the east of Halgarad to avoid aggroed NPC's. Bypass Derogar's Post to the south, cut to the east right before Halgarad and head southwards over the mountains a bit more to the east. Good Luck. ;P You could also try to gain our favor by killing mobs east of derogars or the valley south of that.
