Random Check In

Heya. Just popping in to say hello. It seems many things have changed since I was last here. Xinux has taken over and John stepping down. You all have a lot of new systems in place and it looks like roughly 10% of the content completed (according to a post over at Rerolled from Xinux). Awesome work, keep it up!

Also, I was curious if one of the devs could take time out of your busy schedules and give us an up-to-date road map? I know the plan was to have a majority of the game working by the end of the year (this year) and I know it was a long shot, but what is the updated road map? I know other people want to know, especially at Rerolled. Maybe they could look forward to something along the lines of a "State of the Game" with an updated road map by so and so date. Hype things up a bit, get people to break some things and the new quests in the mean time.

Anyways, I figured I'd ask and stop in and say hello. I've been fairly busy with real life and with things slowing down I may be able to commit some time to content development (again). I won't be able to dedicate a lot of time, maybe a few hours a week. I will have to check on that later this week and get back with you all soon.

Again, keep up the great work. Cheers!

I can only speak of my goals. Since there are not very many of us to go around, we sometimes get caught for periods of time working on the little things rather than big picture items. Right now I am working on some of the issues with items and adjusting the quest system as the content team finds new problems to solve.

I have an overall goal to have Isle of Dawn operating pretty close to the original by this fall, meaning the new player experience is similar to live. That will probably not include crafting, but does include questing, combat experience with abilities, and most of what would be considered a "beta" build.

My roadmap:
--> Continue working on items and quests as needed.

--> Implement proper loot tables with reasonable loot based on the npc type and level.

--> Move diplomacy past the trial stage and actually have the tutorial and some starting parleys working well.

--> Make the broker exchange an actual broker exchange.

I would like to see a situation where new players have to do a little work to obtain useful items/equipment, and that premium drops from mobs actually mean something when put up on the broker. A little economy, so to speak.

It's really hard to do a road map when all of us run into real-life situations where we don't have free time for extended periods. I do the majority of my big work in the fall when I have a lot of free time; summer is very packed for me. In the mean time, it is a priority for all of us to continue working with the content team to keep them moving, so that does push more impressive things further down the road. However, most of the underlying work is done to make things go smoothly and we are hoping for the best.

Hey zippy. Thanks for the response and all the work you've done. Looking forward to hopping in-game hopefully Saturday to see the updates. I don't know who's still on the team - Xinux, Faux, you, plus the content devs? Seems like everyone has a personal road map, per se, whilst still looking at the bigger picture. Would you say that's how it is?

The roadmap for the Content Designers is to finish all starter town quests, which is 1-8 or 1-10 depending on the specific areas. Then we finish off the starter chunks by adding in whatever necessary scripting for all the NPC's and mobs in the chunk (Hailing, Pathing, random movement) etc.

After that we're starting work on some of the basics of class abilities.

Once those are handled, we're going to start spreading out and start hitting quest hubs, going in order from lowest level areas to highest level areas. This will take some time, though we managed to knock out almost all of the starter town quests in 2 months.

First, great job on sticking with everything and plugging away on things.
