Re: Learned abilities
One significant difference about the learned abilities is they have no pre-requisites; you could for example, learn Cull III without learning any previous Cull.
Also, from what I could tell, the rate of learning scaled with intellect, which was adverse to tanks, but also to get credit you had to tank the mob (for some minimum like 15 seconds or something), being adverse to mages.
In some cases, the chance to learn the ability depended on things like mob HP. For cull (IIRC) the mob needed to use cull on you, and at least some of the mobs wouldn't do that until they were below 50%, frex the Gulgrethor DKs in Trengal.

http://telontimes.darkbb.com/t291-disci ... -abilities
I found this page that has most of the info on disciple learned abilities. Copies the article just in case the page goes poof.
Endowment of Life (L4)
Blessed Wind-> Cyclone Kick-> Void Hand
Instant Heal to defensive target (HP based on ranks of abilities and vitality)
Endowment of Mastery (L18)
3/01/09: Is not visible in buff window, but it is working.
Soul Cutter-> Void Hand-> Knife Hand
10% reduction to ability costs of group members for 1min
Endowment of Balance (L26)
Blooming Ridge Hand -> Knife Hand -> Cyclone Kick
Provides 1 Jin every 8 seconds, for 10 minutes.
Endowment of Enmity (L34)
Cyclone Kick -> Ra'Jin Flare
Increases your damage by 10% for 10 Minutes
If you do the abilities in the following sequence, Disc can cycle all endowments indefinately :
Soul Cutter*-> Void Hand-> Blooming Ridge Hand -> Knife Hand -> Blessed Wind-> Cyclone Kick-> Ra'Jin Flare**
Some notes:
Using leechs grasp helps pull off the long sequence above.
Counterattacks usually will not break the chain.
Clarity usually will not break the chain.
Healing will break the chain (lao-jin flare probably won't).
Using 2+ step finishers consecutively will break the chain. (Using one of the finishers while continuing with the next ability in a chain, then using the other finisher, completing the chain, will work)
*Soul Cutter can be skipped if Mastery is active (1 min dur)
**Ra'Jin Flare can be skipped if Enmity is active (10 min dur)
The other learned ability is from tanking mobs, each update will take 10-30 secs. of tanking the mob. That's the time it takes to receive an update towards learning the ability, not the time it takes to learn the actual ability.
The information here is from what I could scrounge up after an hour of researching the web. If any Disciples can amend this with accurate information, it would be appreciated.
Damage and energy returns listed vary according to buffs, weapon damage and crits.
Essence Thief I (L34)
Strikes at the essence of your opponent, dealing 1691 to 1781 damage and draining 1486 to 1566. (38 endurance cost)
Forsaken Templars, Forsaken Sorcerers in Vol Tuniel.
? ? ? in River Palace dungeon.
Essence Thief II (L42)
Strikes at the essence of your opponent, dealing 2129 to 2243 damage and draining 1872 to 1972 energy. (38 endurance cost)
Graystone Legionnaires, Graystone Houndmasters in Bernaid Hills. L40 3 dots.
Essence Thief III (L50):
Strikes at the essence of your opponent, dealing 2596 to 2734 damage and draining 2286 to 2408 energy.
Palace Templars inside Rahz Inkur. L52-53 6 dot.

Re: Learned abilities
For the sorcerer I believe Celerity was level 34, destruction was level 44 and Halo was level 50.
Re: Learned abilities
Just to be complete, I have a list of all psion gestalts at sunset here.
https://www.libraryofwonders.com/Gestalts.pl
You will find many other sites with lists, most of them are older lists and the gestalts have been moved/removed over the years. I guarantee that my list is 100% accurate (minus typos) for the gestalts at sunset. I personally checked many web sites and went to each and every location to verify the info (not to mention I played a psion since beta 2.5).
BTW, in case others haven't noticed, the way you learn these learned abilities was different for each class (though some are similar). Psions clicked gestalts (though some considered mind spies to be learned abilities to), druids had to use abilities to get the higher level version of them. Sorcs had to tank certain mobs. (I hope they brought their healer!) Necros had to get the dropped books, and so on.

They changed how you learned the abilities at some point but I have now idea when since it must have been a ninja patch as it wasn't in any patch notes, so the sorcs did not have to tank the mobs to get the abilities at sunset. They had to do it in the past, but not at sunset. I created a brand new sorc the last year and pushed him all the way to epics and raid gear, and he did not have to tank. My old sorc however had to tank when he did it years ago.
Why only have one epic sorc when you can have two?

Re: Learned abilities
That is so wrong! I always though it was a great idea to force the most defenseless class to tank a powerful mob for their learned abilities! There is no challenge if they don't need to tank the mobs...
Re: Learned abilities
I got Chromatic Halo in 2010 - the sorc didn't have to tank the mob, the sorc had to be hit by it. If that makes sense? My sorc didn't tank the mobs at all, I just stood behind the tank instead of the mob. I believe it worked that way for a lot of abilities that seemed like the character had to tank. People said the rogue had to tank for death whirl, but that wasn't the case for me either.
Re: Learned abilities
That sounds like AoE was working for sorc, rogue.
Dread Knight could definitely get Cull I in Trengal Keep. With the Ancient Word of Doom, you had to tank, and I get them mixed up, the bigger raid boss first, and then the smaller one would also give you credit. Took like four or five runs for me to complete it.
Yes, druid's updates came from casting the lower ranked version.

Re: Learned abilities
Maybe tanking was the easiest way to get it? If in a group ofc the caster (hopefully) does not have agro, so the mobs attention is on the tank and thus spells are not landing on the caster who needs to learn them? So in a way of speaking the caster would have to tank. Not sure since I played a druid and by the sound of it we had it easy.
