I agree with you Jakk, it always bummed me that after all those grinds, and trials, neither crafting nor diplos earn flying mounts

I agree that flying mounts should be "difficult" to get but the difficulty should not be linked to solely to real-world concerns, like having to have enough people to go on a raid, or finding the right group and those people simply not being around.

Lets face it, even in the very best of time in VGO, finding a group, let alone building up a raid team was far from trivial, and the emulator is going to have been fewer players to draw on, making those concerns much more pointed. Point to the point of some content simply being impossible for most because the player population is not going to be at a reliable level to support such multi-player content dependence.

I don't care if a questline is long and challenging, and makes my character to the ragged edge of death, or forces me to run all over Telon, or kill 5000 of something, but there should be options for the other two spheres of gameplay, as well as solo options for one. They don't even have to be the same or even as good as some raid/group version, just allow the option.

Its why on live I was pursuing the Pegasus mount, as it was the ONLY flying mount that was even remotely attainable by a soloist. Everything else meant you getting access to a flying mount was gated by your membership in a raid guild, and your standing within. That is fine for some, but again we need other pathways. Let the raiders raid their brains out for mounts unique to raids but don't let that be the only way to get some form of flying mount.

Its also why it was a godsend when SOE messed up and forgot to remove Randolf the Reindeer from the game. That was like the best screwup SOE ever did :)

I tend to agree that the flying mounts be opened up. It's not about bypassing content. There will always be those who will find ways to cheese their way around things. For me, it was a way to see even more of the world than I normally would have. After you have fought your way through low level mobs a dozen times just to get to a place you want to explore, it becomes a serious disincentive to look around to see what is there.

In addition, there were times when I simply did not have the time to work my way to the mobs I needed for a quest. Or, if I did, I did not have the time to work my way out and there was no safe place to log out for the evening. Having a flying mount on call helped a lot, in those cases. And you know? I still worked my way through the content when I had time to devote to doing so. Which was more often than not.

As for Randolph, I liked him. I know that there has been a lot of hate expressed about his introduction. From my perspective it seemed to come more from the perceived devaluation of the flying mounts as a whole, and perhaps their own flying mounts in particular, than any real 'harm' to the game. Most of the arguments against Randolph seemed to hold the unstated implication of, if everyone has what I have, then what I have is no longer special! Even the stance of 'Randolph ruined VG' is suspicious in the face of lock box mounts and mounts gotten from the cash shop.

But why did I like Randolph? Even as a ground mount, you could use him from level 1. .if you took part in the holiday celebration. If someone did not want to use him, they did not have to. He was forced on no one. Yes, he could fly during the holidays. But only during the holidays. So it was hard for me to garner sympathy for the vocal crowd who disliked him.

Now, if you really want to level the playing field. Create the long, drawn-out quests. Let the people working them sweat blood getting them done for the special mount---flying or not---of their choice. Then, once it is completed, flag their account so that they never have to do it over again in the event that they want to have that mount on more than one character. I'd just love that, as I'm an alt-aholic of the first order. Yeah, if I wanted a different mount on another character, I suppose I would have to do another long, blood-dripping quest for that one. But it would be for a different one.

Anyone who saw the mount on any of my characters would know that I /had/ done the work for it. But to be forced to have to do the same months long quest over and over just because you want to try a new class is a bit much in the days of vgemu. I'm not sure many will agree with this and I am certainly not suggesting it for every quest. And if someone is such a masochist that they actually want to run the Unicorn Quest 15 times, let them.
But for sanity's sake, let's consider an alternative for VGEMU. I know, I know. But it's nice to dream. :)

Ok, a crafted mount sounds amazing, and it should be a long quest, not necessarily a recipe. You craft the components, working closely with the best gnome clockworkers, and at the end, your reward is the clockwork wyrm.
Likewise, it might be neat for a necromancy-themed questline to build an undead Pegasus.

Also, having to ride something that looks as ridiculous as Randolph should be enough penance to allow lower-level players to ride a flying mount, and not just during the winter holidays. The further from December you ride him, the more ridiculous you look. I wouldn’t care. I would have a flying mount that wasn’t impossible to get soloing.

And I never even heard about the Pegasus mount! Which city do I need to align myself with for that? I would appreciate a link.

Right now you can get flying mounts off the auction/exchange, or you can get one from completing IOD.

All of this will be removed once we go live, what's available right now is to make testing a little easier.

Thanks for letting me know! I'm glad developers are still active on this. My husband was dubious that even my bug reports were being seen, but that's another topic.
Now to earn the coin to get a mount!

We're a small but dedicated team. We're working on it everyday. Just a lot of the stuff we work on at this point is behind the scenes stuff - trying to get the back end working right.

Also bug reports take a few hours to show up for us since the script only processes them once every few hours between the game and the website so it doesn't take up too much of the server's resources.

OK, on which continent are they available? I checked Kojan and there were none, and I was unable to access the broker in Khal because everyone was inexplicably aggro and they killed me. Was going to try NT, but they needed to do server updates and I had to log off.
Sorry if this is annoying.

I'm not sure what race you are, but look for the guys that say "Telon Global Exchange". All of them use the same system so any of them should have it. All of the starter towns have one.

Ok, I figured it out. I needed to select flying mount under the spheres category.
I figured browsing “any” in everything would pull up everything on offer. I was wrong.
