I look for a good reason to ragequit every now and then too. Haven't found anything compelling enough yet. We need more drama!!

Another thing we could do with all those cash shop mounts is (after we implement some crafting and diplo quests for flying mounts) is to mix them into the game world as drops or quest rewards as appearance mounts via that speed token system SOE put in at the end. I had a great skeletal pegasus that fit my necro really well. It would be cool to quest for that just for the appearance.

A little late (didn't get to read all posts, sorry for any repetition)

I like the idea of avoiding the item shop mount buying option.

The city faction option conflicts with the original race factions that I preferred as it helped stick to the lore of the game.

The griffon quest / dresla / POTA (post change) would be the other options to edit and include the 'other' mounts.
They were good rewards for the players effort and achievement.

Instead of rewarding the mounts from one of the above (or even as Faux suggested) a new quest, they could reward a "flying mount token".
Then you can use said "flying mount token" to purchase the mount of your liking from a specialized NPC shop (that would list them all in the shop)

Tokens could vary depending on quest line, and the choices could vary as well.

Though I do ask to exclude those flyers that didn't land and just hovered there (so annoying) >.<

well, late to the party as usual... I love the idea of a crafting mount quest, as crafting was by far my favorite aspect of the game, and I spent many more hours doing that than adventuring, mainly because it didn't need a group, and in the latter days it was getting pretty hard to find one... I also really like the idea of a token exchange for the mount that suits your toon's look... I wasn't a collector, but I definitely farmed coins so I could get my Dwarven cleric his "war pig" mount; the rest of the racial mounts were kind of "ehh" to me, but I loved some of them, like the aforementioned pig for dwarves I don't remember the cash shop stuff, but I hardly think that adding that stuff to the game in other ways, besides a cash shop is a great idea too... I just donated to the server maintenance, and it got me to thinking that maybe the cash shop isn't such a bad idea after all for certain things; perhaps you could set up your own version and have all funds spent in it directed towards the server maintenance (personally, I think this is an awesome idea, and resolves some outstanding issues...

I want to amend a statement I made in my previous post < I don't remember the cash shop stuff, but I hardly think that adding that stuff to the game in other ways, besides a cash shop is a great idea too...>... this should read: I don't remember the cash shop stuff, but I hardly think that adding that stuff to the game in other ways, besides a cash shop, is bad for the emulator, and anyone who says otherwise is narrow-minded and childish, especially if the items are integrated into the game in a logical way...

The flying mounts should be hard to get though in my opinion. While testing the emulator it's fine to have the flying mount reward from IoD but assuming the emulator is one day complete and offers the full game, I think it should be removed again. It completely removes the need/desire to do all the work for the unicorn for example, if you can easily get a flying mount.
Things like the unicorn quests used to be great achievements for a mid-level group to work on but no one would ever do it if getting a better (like a flying mount) one became too easy.

Crafting mounts just doesn't make any sense to me. It's an animal after all, not something you build on a workbench. Crafting things for the mount (saddlebag, horseshoes etc) is fine and well but you can't craft a horse, that's just silly. lol

The pegasus reward on the IOD is temporary, it says so in the chat text when you get it, that it's a thank you for testing, and to make testing, specifically, easier for players to get to the content that needs testing.

The only mounts we could possibly make for crafting (And make it work) would be the clockwork dragon or the wicker pegasus. Both of these look like constructs, especially the clockwork dragon.

Obviously, you haven't spent the time grinding out crafting WOs to get that special recipe that is made obsolete by the new questing gear... there is just as much work (including blood, sweat, and tears) put in crafting as any other sphere of the game, and since you obviously have not read all of the posts in this thread, your posting above is just silly.

I don't understand why a craftsman must build a mechanical mount to earn one. Obviously a crafting mount requires crafting, but why not issue a reward for fulfilling some insane work order(s) such as arming an elite garrison? My wife and I played sooo many hours in Vanguard but we liked family guilds as opposed to raiding guilds and neither of us got into diplomacy all that much. If my smith made a grand weapon or a grand piece of armor for a lord, why couldn't he earn some type of living flying mount whose type be specified by the continent? Or if my wife built him a magnificent ship, why not the same? I also strongly disliked the notion that only raiding master craftsmen had access to the largest ship designs. Having those ship designs drop in raids is fine as are the raiding griffon quest, but there needs to be some alternatives added. IMO. I am a little dubious about the number of players that will be available for those raids.

I think there should be some chance to get flymount also for solo players.
OK, creating flying dragon on a working bench does prolly not sound reasonably (except those two described by Jakkal), but I would like to have an option to make some e.g. dragon artefakt which I could exchange for real flying beast. Relevant recipe should be hard to get (ultra/rare ???), but not impossible, when you have no time/chance to go raid way.
My idea looks similar to the Gruff´s one.
Also, I am not afraid ppl would skip Unicorn quest. This questline is simply amazing and MUST. ;)

I think you guys are forgetting that, even before Randolph, there was a flying mount that required no raiding -> The Pegasus. You had to farm a hell of a lot of ancient plat coins, but you could get one with just ancient plat coins. And ancient plat coins were relatively easy to gather, you could even get them in teens level areas. The mount wasn't available until level 45 or something, but that seems like a small price to pay.

So yes, there were flying mount options for nonraiders. But there were no flying mount options for crafters or diplomats who, in our opinion, deserved something after all their hard work too.
