Funny, my reply above I had originally typed out how to allow crafters to build mounts for people but erased it thinking "how will they build a Griffon?! unrealistic!" -- I hadn't considered the Clockwork

(still hate gnomes)

Building a mount sounds like something those gnomes would do...I was really hoping as we agreed a while ago, that all flying mounts from F2P cash shop would be left out, as they are immersion and lore breaking, clockwork included.

VG had 3 main flying mounts, Griffon (Long Quest/Raid), Wyvern (Raid), Pegasus (long faction coin grind and slowest) then PotA Mounts were introduced Nightmare/Pegacorn (6-12 man long endgame content/12 man raid).

I was looking forward to never seeing those stupid cash shop mounts again, was the decision made to change that and now implement them?

No "decision" has been made yet, we're still discussing all options and probably will be for months. First off, there is no "Cash Shop" here. I'm sure we could emulate that, too but honestly, why? We can put all that crap on an in-game vendor. Not that we will.

For the "plethora" of mounts available (there are over 200 when I query the current broker for mounts... ~gasp~) I am confident we can scale that back as long as it doesn't butt-hurt a majority of the player community. I feel a consensus that many only really care for the mounts "that mean something" anyway.

I'm just curious how the clockwork dragon is lore breaking when you've already got gnome built airships and stuff. I mean as much as I hate the gnomes and their exosuits, it's all in the game and part of the lore. I mean they already have robots in the game and the dragon doesn't seem like that much of a stretch with magic involved.

The one I really like is the Nightmare of Dark Attractions. (That's the purple/teal version of the POTA mount) That is a really nice mount that they added. My second favorite would be the manticore (I actually asked for the GMs to add that one cuz I always wanted a manticore mount) but they didn't give it a running animation, which I can't figure out why cuz you see them running in other areas of qalia.

A lot of the mounts were from the racial areas, and some people did enjoy collecting them. I wasn't really a collector, I just liked going as fast as possible.

Yeah that is what worries me mate, the cash shop items played a big part in breaking VG from immersion to economy to difficulty, it took away Crafters jobs by selling most of the items, it removed difficulty/challenge by selling mounts both ground and flying, everything VG stood fro was basically removed by implementing F2P and the cash shop, so to put it back or any of the items just continues that downgrade of the game in my opinion.

The majority of those mounts you will find to be ground mounts, as each race had 2 starting ground mounts but there was only 5 main flying mounts, the rest were cash shop or SOE Live rewards but even that Pink wyrm was ridiculous and deserves to die with the rest of them

Flying only really matter in VG because it was so hard to get, the easier it became, the more it downgraded the game and allowed low level players to skip content, so it actually played a big part in balance for the whole game which I know you will understand but not many others take that into consideration when requesting a "cool" or "slow" flying mount, it doesn't matter what speed it is, being available to low levels allows content skipping and bypassing challenging mobs, paths, content, dangerous waters etc.

In my opinion, all the gnome stuff is lore breaking and adding to it just further takes away from the game.

As for the other mounts, they represent easy-mode and pay to win cash grabs by SOE, as I posted above, VG travel was balanced in the beginning because it was very hard to obtain a flying mount but also a ground mount took time and money or a quest, if you start handing them out or selling them, you degrade other game quests and features/challenges like Unicorn/Shadow hound, racial mounts, diplo courrier horse etc.

There is other things to collect in game that doesn't break the balance, let them find something else and keep our game challenging and help continue promoting player interaction to help get people around the world!

Well that's what we're talking about, giving them a quest or someway to get them that doesn't trivialize anything.

What he said ^

Randolph OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOO

If u was to put in flyers for lower lvls cant they be made to go only as fast as your "fastest" mount, to encourage the Griff line or APW-Dresla / Pota when your ready for them Quests.

I'm trying to decide if the idea of level locked flyers might be a good idea or even doable. I know the gulch quest is pretty low level so if it rewarded a permanent flyer what is the general consensus of having it not be able to fly you around once you hit 30, 35, 40 or so? Just as a taste to what you could get for the griffon/wyvern

Level locking might be a good idea. What about, also, if your mount has a cooldown? It could be like a permanent rental. You can only fly for 5 minutes with say, a 20 minute cooldown. (Good enough to get you places, not really good for anything else).
