Class Epic Weapons

I wouldn't mind seeing some type of epic quests for each class similar to original Everquest. I remember the sense of accomplishment after finishing one. I know they had some type of socketed class quest item although I never got to that point. Just doesn't seem as cool as a unique looking weapon that really defines your class. Which I think one of Vanguard's strongest points is how well it defines it's classes.

The socketed weapon/epics in Vanguard actually change the appearance of your weapon as well, if I recall correctly.

It's actually a good system, because it means you can take the appearance and benefits of your epic with you as you upgrade weapons. My only gripe has been with the process itself. The pure grinding didn't seem very epic to me and the fact that the process wasn't really class specific.

Yes. there were epics in VG. They were just weapon attachments that were badass and did change the appearance as well. And, yes, the quest was very long and grindy. I wouldn't mind that part being changed somehow.

If Epics are going to be changed I would like them to be made EPIC in the manner of an Epic quest that takes you a life time to finish and not just an epic grind for an epic amount of drops from epic mobs that have nothing to do with your class. Ergo : " You have finally achieved level 10 young Squire of the Paladins guild ! " your class trainer says to you at your graduation ceremony. He then pulls you aside and tells you of a long lost 2HP Paladins lance that was lost ages ago when a devout paladin left and disappeared. He then gives you a parchment with a prayer written down by the missing paladin telling of a temple where he went to pray. You reach the temple and find his spirit (Lv 10 +6Dot) guarding a scroll of binding ..... At level 20 you will find a lead to another piece maybe the handle . then at level 30 the shaft. then at 40 the wrapping and at 50 finally you come across the tip. and with the scroll you got at level 10 you bind the pieces together and make the lance whole again. .... Epics should always tell a story important for the class and not be just a collection of junk put together to make a nice weapon. they should start at the beginning of your campaign and last until you complete them at the highest level. and when you complete it that will make it that much more meaningful to you . EQ1 almost had it but they had a weapon quest every so often and then the next would just upgrade the old weapon. the stories were nice but I didn't like epic 1.0 epic 1.5 epic 2.0 epic 2.5 it was really dumb in the end. one single epic to be completed at max level over the course of the entire campaign like I wrote would have been better to me.

Id also like some options, I mained a Wolf shaman and basicly had the epics in the bag for 90% of the time while the imperial Warhammer served as my Epic, an ideal situation would be giving shamans the same option as paladins had to choose between 1h + board and 2h Epic.

Epic weapons are a great concept and I remember getting my first epic 1.0 in EQ, a great memorable moment. The problem with Epic Weapons is that weapons are very integral to your character and when new content is released they are often outdated by quest/dropped weapons very quickly and then they just sit in your bank as a good memory.

My idea is a storyline quest that spans the level ranges, say starting at level 10 when you tend to branch out to shared zones more, have the storyline quest also act as a content lead on style quest ie, where do you go next to find something to do.

Involve all 3 spheres, a few examples, you have to complete a diplomacy quest to "convince" NPC_01 to give you the next adventuring quest, or you have to help town_01 by crafting a given item or performing work orders to a certain level and quantity or save the town from raiders before they will talk to you(next diplo quest). Convince the town "chief" that you need to form a militia, then convince enough townsfolk to join in, then make their armour/weapons, then help them defend their town against a raid.

After a career(leveling to 50 and doing all sub quests) helping Telon you could be appropriately rewarded with a very nice item, maybe a necklace for each of the spheres involved.

This could help direct players to quest hubs, or underutilised content, and whatever item was the final reward, could be "upgraded" along the way as a less powerful version of the end result, along with an appropriate title for having been so integral to the protection/development of Telon and for bragging rights of course.

As/when new levels/content are released you could simply continue the quest series and upgrade the items further, especially given that you are dealing with a less important slot than a weapon you could make it slightly better than current raiding content, that way raiders will want to do it, as they are normally willing to go to great lengths for an upgrade :)

You could call it a "chain of office" with appropriate title, like Grand Protector of Telon.
