Annoying Visual Effects
I don't know if an option is available to turn some of this stuff off, but I thought I'd compile a list of the things that tended to give people headaches in game:
1. The camera followed every bounce with the character - which means going up and down stairs make it jar around harshly. If we fix the stair issue with a smooth, invisible surface, this might solve this problem.
2. Camera Shake - Please either give us an option to turn this off, or just turn it off completely. The camera shook during fun things like giants running around (Which people would take the illusion of and start running around), and stuff like harvesting. Sometimes the client would get stuck in a 'shake' and that would be really barftastic.
3. POTA "Drunk Vision". These were also available on some bartenders as things like "Ikikgud's brew" or whatever. In POTA, sometimes a mob would make the tanking character's vision all messed up. It seemed cool at first, but it was like looking at the screen through cokebottles. Sometimes it would get stuck and you would have to relog to fix it. Great idea, bad implementation. It would be better if they did things like blur/fog the screen instead of the nauseating visuals we were given.
4. That asshole in COB that really wrecked your camera. If you played in COB you know which one I'm talking about. I don't mean the one that made the screen go black (That was fine and interesting). Anyway I think it was Si'Gabri? And it gave you a severe fisheye effect with the field of view way up. And that one would almost always break so you had to relog to get rid of it. Seems like he made the screen upside down too but I can't recall. Everytime we fought him I would stay way, way back.
5. Qalian sand. I know I've brought this one up. But yeah Qalian sand plus yellow names = eye strain. It was way too bright.
6. Some of the mounts with particle effects, the particles would fly right into the camera and make for a flashing effect.
I'm not sure if any of this could or should be changed, but I thought I'd bring them up to see what others thing or if alternative visuals could be used instead. If the idea is to make it difficult for a player to see what's going on, I think we can do it in some better ways than these. I'm pretty light sensitive so it's cool if no one else wants to change this stuff.

Re: Annoying Visual Effects
Some of this sounds client-side, which we may not be able to control. But things like cokebottle vision, I can't say I ever saw this myself so unless someone collected it happening, we may not be able to implement it anyway (the crowd rejoices). If we have the packets for this, and they are server-controlled, we can definitely do something [better] with them.
I noticed there are settings client-side, things like bloom effect, or those weird Performance settings, that changed a lot of the harshness in the game... but it also subtracted from some of it's beauty. Like the field of view blur effect, things up close are sharp, trees in the distance are blurry. It's stuff like this that makes Vanguard (to me) such an amazingly beautiful game compared to the other crap thrown together for profit.

Yes John, Vanguard is a wonderful mistress. She was quite unskilled when we first met, but now that she is older and more mature, we have figured out many of the things that make her tick. We know what makes her throw a tantrum an we know how to get her to do what we want. As she ages she still is pleasing on the eyes...err what the hell was I saying?
Oh yea, now I remember...Yea John Vanguard has/had a ton of client side graphics options, more than any MMO I remember. I don't know if any of them got patched out over the years, I hope not. Between the sliders, undocumented client-side commands and other things you could REALLY make Telon look awesome.

Re: Annoying Visual Effects
I remember there was an option to turn the camera bounce off in the settings. Not sure about the camera shake. It seems like there was a way to disable that, though I can't recall what setting (if any) did.
