Re: Cleric DPS
Well that might be true, but discs got the same amount of endurance regen, and aside from just very few items, there was no way to change your endurance regeneration rate, where as other classes could get augs, stats and items that would increase their energy regeneration.
I'm not sure about endurance costs either, they were phenomenally high on the rogue, the most used abilities being 25-40 endurance (not counting the finishers since they're always pretty low for all classes). That might be part of the balance.
But regardless, when you're leveling a lowbie Cleric, you spend the majority of your time sitting there and waiting for endurance to refresh, it's really a pain.

Im all for clerics being more beast
Maybe just give em a bit more AE power. Being that they are holy/divine and all. Im sure they were great in NN/OT.

Re: Cleric DPS
I made a cleric to level with my husband's warrior. For the first 15-20 levels it was a really fun class. Not the fastest DPS in the world, but hard to kill evened it out well enough. Then came time to pick a specialization. Welcome to a world of hell. Then it was heal or nothing. SO boring. I parked it and made another disciple. Also tried bear shaman, it was better than cleric after level 20 but the first 10 levels of hell before you got your pet were just agonizing. I never understood why they made disciple so damned fun then just made all other healers (blood mages included) a group bound chore from hell (ok except bear shaman because the pet can take a beating and you have half a chance to live).
Re: Cleric DPS
Part of this was a lack of cleric oriented damage gear/solo gear. War cleric and death cleric were really good dmg wise if you improvised with the gear, but it could not compare to the dps of a dmg specced healer of any other variety. And they can still heal.
Clerics in PVP were a whole other thing. No one wanted to fight one unless they knew they could take them quick. Cleric vs cleric was a 2 hour fight that usually ended in a stalemate. No one could kill me easily, but my damage was crap and I was a kite magnet. If someone decided to attack from a distance there were times where I literally just had to wait until they got bored. No real roots to speak of.
Death cleric had some nice ranged/magic skills, but end game the resistance is so high they don't stick on anyone. This is where that gear would come in handy.

Re: Cleric DPS
I guess not many people played clerics in eq? Unless the target was undead, you did almost zero damage. And when it was undead, you still didn't do as much damage as most other classes. Clerics are clerics because they heal. In VG they have the option of gaining some melee damage and still have the best heals. Not sure how much more balanced they could get. I played a cleric to 50, I thought it was really, really fun. I had to put more thought into gear, but I always had options. I did really well solo, and was always needed in groups.
I'm not sure why the person a couple posts up says that Bloodmage was a boring or weak class. They were actually quite powerful and very very fun.
I know everyone always points to Disciples in these discussions because they truly were OP. But, maybe they can just tone them down a bit.
Shamans (with the exception of birds) were awesome the way they were. I played a bear as my main and leveled a wolf as an alt. Both were great for different reasons.
Yall probably will get tired of me, but I hate all the talk of class balance and "unfair" advantages. Class imbalance is good. It makes you weaker as an individual and much stronger as a group player. The more balanced and easy you make solo play, the worse a game gets in my opinion. By the time all the classes have their "unfairness" mitigated, you get in groups and raids and become unstopable and just face roll everything. Why would you want that?

I couldn't agree more. I loved my cleric just the way he was in the golden age, the time when the game was at it's best in my opinion, when there weren't any devs around that broke things. Clerics was way over powered at release so that had to be toned down.

Thanks Glenzig, and I totally agree. Imbalance is GOOD. My main was a cleric, his job was to HEAL, and I loved him - even though he was a gnome...
Haiku is easy -
But sometimes it makes no sense.

Re: Cleric DPS
It's not so much about class imbalance as it is about being boring as hell. If people think grinding POTA is boring and sucks, playing a cleric is like that full time except for the rare instances where your group gets in oh-shit moments - which usually only happens on raids. Even on raids you sit there and hit one key over and over.
So because apparently the point isn't being made, I made a handy infographic on playing three different classes and the experiences we have playing them (Yes, I had 55's in all three of these classes)

Re: Cleric DPS
Your infographic doesn't nearly have enough spacebar tapping in it to simulate the extra heals, hate and DPS you get from jumping.
