Heya Telonians,
If lorestones were always protected by some 5-dot Lorekeeper or something, then I could understand the need for players to call on one another for help. Without it, players will just get the lorestone and neglect to let anyone else know its there.
I like this idea on the forums... maybe make the boss spawn on clicking the lorestone? Maybe some kind of ghost living inside the lorestone? Some Kind of genie in a bottle ... And get the update on stone only, if the boss is dead to prevent people of just training the boss away and grab the stone.
Greetings, Mith
I was thinking a similar thing. Make them something you have to work up towards. Have each one granting a different sort of minor boost that helps more with beating the lorestone mobs (and a boss at the end) then it does making you OP towards everything else in the world.

Agreed, I think that would go a far way to ensuring it remains rewarding and avoiding the drive by trivialization that would invariably happen if it was just made "Click to Pick" Maybe even go one step further, and if the mob spawned was a ghost or genie, then once spawned it in effect becomes the lorestone, either via loot drop, or journal update

Re: Borestones / Flying Mounts / Ships
The more I think about Lorestones, the more I want them removed from the game.
They were never what VG was about, they were added in during a time when the game was being made into the "easy-mode-hand out-exp/damage/shinies/cash shop/free to play etc.
Everything, which killed the game.
I would much rather quest, craft, solo, group, raid and earn my items, gear and bonuses, than click a rock or fight a 5 dot mob and then click a rock. It just seems so gimmicky, like everything else that was changed with the F2P updates.
VG was never designed to be a F2P game and the transformation killed it faster than it ever would've died if it was left alone, Lorestones and the ridiculous itemisation changes pretty much handed every player more power than they should of had and it took a lot of the challenge out of the game, without that, it became your everyday run of the mill MMORPG and I really don't want to see our beloved VG go through that a second time, it deserves much better after all the years of abuse.
Remove Lorestones, remove the Best Buff Only system (BBO), remove the itemisation and F2P changes, remove the cash shop items and give back some the that stolen love to adventuring, crafting, diplo and the games challenge and old school appeal will return.
I will never forget levelling my Psi 7 years ago (at launch) and my Rogue and Bear shaman 5 years ago and the stories, experiences, journey and time it took compared to levelling my DK, Cleric, Pally, Necro, Bard, Wolf shaman, Bird shaman and Sorc recently (last 2 years), who I either power levelled or boxed quite easily with the exp rate, faction gain and items/gear/weapons/buffs are just too powerful and over the top.
These are just my thoughts of course but I wanted to make them clear, I know others here feel the same way.

I share your sentiments, likely to a tee. And would add that I think some of the people who were with Vanguard even at the end were people who were there from early on, and would appreciate that move towards original VG. I was there from lights on to lights off, and it wasen't because I liked the changes SOE made, but rather loved VG for VG, and couldn't find something to replace it, even in its hollowed out shell of its self state

That's pretty much why I stayed from lights on to lights off mate
I don't want to turn VG into it's hardcore beta/release version, I just think getting back to level 1-50 content and challenge up to APW would be something that I think the majority of us would agree, was some of the best times, everything started going downhill from 51-55.
People have to remember too, this emulator will start us all off and level 1, at our racial starting areas and we have to rebuild our in-game community and work together to make new memories and experiences, I would personally like to do that while enjoying the older level 1-50 content before augs and lorestones and everything else was even thought of, they were the good old days

I fully agree with this. Personally, I would much rather pretend that 50-55 didn't exist at all and just reappropriate the new content and use it in different places. Fill out the gaps in content throughout the world (25-35 for example).

Re: Borestones / Flying Mounts / Ships
Some of the raid encounters could even be converted for mid level with trivial loot restrictions, so no loot if one player is level 50 in a level 30 raid. Would be great for a custom server.
Re: Borestones / Flying Mounts / Ships
51-55? ugh, standing around in SOD, staring at people running in circles, running around in circles myself (which I HATED), ... time sink
(must admit, the PotA group / raid encounters were nice to do though)
so back to more skill oriented high end content would be awesome... more high end raid dungeons would be cool, not only APW, make Stiirhad raidable or Cave of Wonders, they look awesome =)
(was a bit disappointed of City of Brass, Brass made me expect some steampunky area like APW, but don't know if that was only me)

Re: Borestones / Flying Mounts / Ships
51-55 usually meant shields in OT or getting in a kite group in KDQ for me. Lowering max to 50, or raising to 60 would maybe help, but then that would make end content too hard or too easy. Main issue I see is that it is 55. Why 55? There's a psychological effect when you hit the zeros. I never tried to power level myself from 45 to 50, that just seemed odd. But 50 to 55, I just wanted to get it over with...

Re: Borestones / Flying Mounts / Ships
Yup, really 51-55 was a tacked on, keep em subbed push that was annoying in how obvious it was, and the worst part was I and others took part in it, I always felt so dirty grinding stupid KDQ mobs for crates and XP, but the completionist in me demanded it.
As for a return to launch difficulty, I did like It but, I understand it would be almost impossible to do with a small player base and all the huge changes made over time. Possibly a personal server in the future. TBH im just glad im here and get to make some new VG memories, and if we can eliminate some of the really bad design additions that were made (Randolph, slappy, 51-55 ) itll be great, but im a realist, I understand we all have a different idea of what VG was and should be, and im ok with working within the framework we end up with, whatever it is. Afterall, I did play on the live servers, and it couldn't be crazier then that
