/who is Anonymous?
If I have /anon turned on, and you cannot see my level, classes and stuff with a normal /who, you should also not see me in a /who all 55 or /who all Class query.
As a QA guy, that seems like a bug to me.

Your class and level can also be seen if you're grouped but not group leader, by hovering the mouse over the group leader in the find window.
Re: /who is Anonymous?
VG features that we may not need in New Telon .
Good points, I will save a reference to this post for things to consider when we continue with /who.

Re: /who is Anonymous?
The main point for /anon in VG was for competing guilds to hide their location when they were camping a contested named mob, it then became a way for players to hide exploits and stacking cheats.
PvP used it on and off as well but there was no real interest in VG PvP, as the majority of the PvPers left their server long ago.
For the last few years it was not needed at all, other than for those exploiting players to hide their stacked RoE/RoRRs so other players couldn't report them
Probably useless info but not a great deal of players knew. lol

Re: /who is Anonymous?
All good info, always Kilsin I guess this wish list is not about emulating VG, it's about fixing something I believe was broken in the essence of "what is Anonymous" (but, privacy). You may ask, why play an MMO if you want privacy? Some do. Even then, I'm a designer so for me doing a /who all 55 and seeing Kilsin is online, [Anonymous] means I now know he's level 55. Hope that makes more sense.
For simply not displaying stuff in /who, I guess we could implement a "GM Command" available to players to just say, don't show [this] or [that] in /who queries, regardless of /anon or /role... but that would be for a later date.

Oh absolutely mate, I like my privacy too and I agree it was broken, I just wanted to share some not-so-well-known uses for it but I would love to see this fixed to be completely anon
You could always tell the players who parsed higher than their fellow classes and would never remove /anon lol, but I would be confident is saying, you guys will fix that so it won't be an issue

Re: /who is Anonymous?
I’ve almost always been /anon in EQ2 for the entire 9 years I’ve played that, for multiple reasons.
One reason, as was previously stated, was for hiding location when forming up for contested mobs. Without Anon, it’s just too easy for guilds to spy on each other. All you have to do is /who all [guildname] and you'll know that if more than say, 8 people are in one overland zone, then a contested is up and that you still have time to try and steal it if you can form faster. Some people thing that's totally fair, but I personally disagree. If they want to gank the mob, they should have someone there keeping an eye on the spawn, not just have a command on macro they tap every now and then.
The other reason is basic privacy. It’s not that I don’t want people to know my class or level, it’s just more that I hate blind invites. Back in the day in EQ2 (2004/5), I’d get random invites from people in say, Ruins of Varsoon while I was still sitting in Qeynos Harbor. I neither knew the person nor was I LFG but the invites still came, because all they had to do was type “/who all fighter 25 30” or whatever the command was and just mass invite people until someone clicked yes.
I’m all for being social in MMOs, but there also needs to be an ability for people to have a “Do not disturb” type of thing if they just not in the mood or are getting too many cold invites.

They are very good points too and made me remember another reason why i spent a lot of time anon, no one could inspect your character with /anon on, so if I was in sub par gear on an alt but knew I had the skill to mix with the group I wanted to get into, i would throw anon on so they couldn't see my crappy blue level 25 gear on my lvl 45 alt lol
I could run around and perform as needed and no one would be any wiser
