Hilsbury Manor

I was doing some reading today and came across this page http://wiki.silkyvenom.com/index.php/Hilsbury_Manor about Hilsbury Manor. This is by far the biggest of disappointments I ever came across in the game. This was a very cool installation and it had one (possibly 2) quests involved with it that ended in a to be continued that later became end game content. The article I read today spoke of an affliction "Curse of the Vampire' which would have required "Curing the Curse' to remove it or a follow up quest to get a "Form of the Vampire". How frikking cool would that have been? Why was this never in the live game? How hard would it be to put it in the live game? Today I wandered the grounds around Hilsbury and saw a mob called "Lord Taygood - Steward of House Targonor". This lead me to wonder if that had a tie in to some diplomacy quest that was never implemented or some such. So many possibilities. I keep searching for lore in this game and I find little. Was it always like that or did I just blindy play and somehow miss a huge backstory in this game? I would love to see much more lore in the game. I always feel like I'm missing something. Yes I am here killing stags and mountain lions but WHY? And please don't say because I need to cull the herd. *snooze* I wish I could rewrite the questline for Misthaven Crossing.

The curse was in the live game. I did it on two characters. On my druid, she kept the vampire curse. She got an illusion to turn into a bat (I have a screenshot of it around here somewhere), and at night she got strength and speed boosts (And maybe other stuff I don't recall). Infact, a lot of us did it just for the speed boost. During the day it was supposed to make her normal speed and some stat reductions. I don't recall specifically what.

On my rogue, I got the curse removed. And your reward? A really stupid pet "Warrior of Light". It was REALLY stupid. It was SO STUPID. It had a 24hr in game cooldown, meaning you had to play 24 hours in order to respawn it.

One time I spawned it near some water, and I didn't realize it was underwater while I was fighting some mobs. The stupid thing drowned itself. I'm not kidding. It drowned itself.

After that they changed "Warrior of LIght" to a buff that supposedly gave you extra damage against undead. I don't know if that ever worked or not.

Can't stop laughing but at the same time SO POed I missed that quest. I can't even imagine how because I crawled Mistahven top to bottom many occasions just because I loved the atmosphere so much. /facepalm

I know they took it out of the game, I'm just not sure when they removed it. I got to keep the "warrior of light" on my rogue all the way til sunset. I rerolled my druid so she no longer had the bat form (I can't remember if they took that away or not).

That may be why. I played on the European server (Halgar) and it was really underpopulated. I missed quite a bit of group content because of that. I didn't get to do Hilsbury until umm 2010 or 11 I think. My husband and I duoed it with a disciple and warrior then. I never remember getting infected with anything. I so looked forward to finally crawling that place and we cleared it to the mirror (Click- ha ha screw you adventurer!) in no time. I was so sad it was over that fast. I waited 2 years to go through it and that was it. One stinkin quest that seems like it ended in a closet. Totally sucked. For that much visual wow factor it really needs some more stuff to go with it.

I doubt they would have had any plans for diplomacy in Hilsbury Manor. Risen members of the old kingdom of Targonor were just scattered across areas of undeath. Queen Nyla Targonor could be found in Graystone, for example.

Unfortunately, there's always been a dearth of lore in Vanguard. Pretty much the only major source in game was diplomacy without which I probably wouldn't have even gotten a basic sense of the corruption in Khal and Ahgram, let alone learned anything about the gods. Main questlines such as Vol Tuniel would eventually hit dead ends leaving more questions than answers.

As I transition stuff to the wiki and traverse New Telon I'm hoping to pick up enough fragments to eventually make questlines that would expand on the existing lore. I've had some plans for class specific ones that would establish class/race connections to specific gods/spirits, elaborate on the backgrounds of key factions and locations, and tie in outlying narratives such as the exiles of the Raki and Kurashasa from their planes to events on Telon. As we get closer to our goal I intend to start fleshing out some of these ideas into presentable quests complete with dialogue to submit for consideration.

I have had the same thought and I am really hoping we will be allowed to write some stuff to go in the game and make it more interesting/ complete feeling and not just a collection of random stuff thrown in. I got the feeling like the quests were added in a rush or the writers were uninspired. At the very least I would like to see some of the broken and unfinished quests done.

This stuff was taken out pretty early, if I recall. I started a little bit after the game launched (a year or so I think? I forget exactly) and it wasn't available at that point. I think there was something broken with the vampire curse part itself so they had to remove it. Totally a shame though because the Hilsbury stuff was some of my favourite in the game. So much fun exploring that place and dear god the mirror scared the hell out of me when I got to that part of the quest.

Ah ha! Here's the bat form! I know lots of people did this for the speed, but IIRC, the bat form gave you levitation with it. So it was a free lev.

Do you remember how this questline was supposed to go. I know the people with the Vampire Hunters League standing in that hole near the ruined village were supposed to give you a way to remove the curse you get at Hilsbury. Who gives you the quest to get the bat form? Do you remember any of that or the reward you got removing the curse? I'm not sure if we would need the specifics to have them set values for the stuff in game. Shame they ever took this out. That bat form is awesome! Would have loved that on my necromancer.
