they felt it was stepping over the line and believed that if you were not there on the characters that wanted loot, then you did not deserve it and I tend to agree with them.
I think I would agree with Kilsin if it were an ideal situation where people could play whatever they wanted, no matter what. So then the onus would be on them to play the class they want to gear up more than others, and take their lumps if they didn't get the drops they wanted (So other people could get them). Just, our situation in the live game was less than ideal, to the point that if I didn't play my pally or my cleric, we couldn't kill the mob. And then it kinda makes me look like an asshole if I wanted to play my rogue instead.
A big example was sparkles. Rogues are almost completely useless on that fight, but you HAD to have like 5-6 extremely well geared tanks. I almost always had to MT on my pally on that fight regardless of what I wanted to play.

Lol I know I am going against the grain here and if you implement it, it will not kill the game for me, I just won't take part in it. It was pretty much the decline of the game that pushed people to use this exploit, so fixing the itemisation, challenge and general power of the players will slow them right down. It was only after many of the top guilds being stuck at end game for a very long time farming everything did this issue even come up and it was basically just laziness and a disregard for being treated so poorly plus impatience that they partook in this exploit to make it easier/faster for them to gear up, but aren't we trying to step away from that easy-mode/instant gratification mindset and go back to earning things and challenging ourselves even with a nasty RNG?
Maybe the RNG and loot tables were the problem that we could tweak instead of exploiting a broken mechanic?
I sacrificed my main character (Rogue) getting any loot in PotA for around 6-8 months in Reverence because my guild needed me to play my Psi to help them succeed in pushing members through trials, gearing other more important main role characters like Tanks/Healers and I was fine with that, I didn't feel the need to switch over to a character that was not involved in the kill at all to grab loot that other characters did the work for, that is just my take on it anyway, I can see where Jakkal and yourself are coming from but I just look at it from a more vanilla and pure angle that you need to play the character to qualify for the loot.
This is our first disagreement mate! Is the honeymoon period over now? lol

Yeah you make a good point but that was when we were all bottlenecked at end game farming the toughest content and way overpowered with broken itemisation and buff stacking.
Go back to the 1-50 groups/raids and even the very early 51-55 levelling and Server first kills and it was all still exciting and new, we only started exploiting after years of farming the same stuff and a lot of it became trivial to many of us at the higher end of raiding, so many got impatient and just accepted the fact they would exploit to gear alts and other toons via a system that was broken.
Maybe fixing the loot tables and the itemisation would resolve that problem and replace the need to be patient and play the character that you needed gear on but starting fresh again, we will not have that problem of 12 alts all max level and raid geared.
So I think years down the track it may be avoided if we think ahead now and try to fix the source of the problem, rather than just exploit the problem later on, again just my thoughts.

Re: Raid Loot Bug
How guilds distribute raid loot is up to them - per attendee, per account, per human being, whatever... Being able to get free raid loot from a raid that you weren't even participating in at all though is an exploit, and yeah I got some free raid loot that way, and I feel dirty now. (Well, not really, the belt was awesome!)
Maybe the dev team can find a way to avoid that exploit while letting guilds decide how to distribute loot to the PEOPLE at the raid, regardless of account.
Suggestion_01: Somehow associate accounts with each other and let people mail raid loot to any of the toons in their associated accounts.

Haiku is easy -
But sometimes it makes no sense.

Oh... maybe my guild was unique in one way since we almost never used more then two well geared tanks plus one extra tank that didn't have to be that well geared.
I admit that I used the exploit once myself and that was on Sparkles.

Re: Raid Loot Bug
I forgot to mention in that example that sparkles dropped a rogue only spell that was really important to our class balance. So it was kind of a kick in the teeth in that regard (I was lucky enough to get it off Tharridon oddly enough).

This is certainly possible, via custom (dot) commands. We're an emulator, we can probably do just about anything server-side.
