Launcher error/issue

Greetings,
I appear to be having an issue with the Launcher, and I will try to be as detailed as possible. I did try redownloading the Launcher several times and ran a check to make sure the file was corrupt.
I can get through to step 5 in the Set Up Guide...
The first error I get is on double-click of Launchpad.exe... "Critical error trying to calculate checksum for C:\downloads\LaunchPad35\Launchpad.exe"
It lets me click on, and advances to the next step. But the same error pops up a second time...and I click OK again.
I am able to find the 'bin' folder in order to point to the executable, and it says in green, "client found". Then I click SAVE...
Then I get the following error... (Copied from the log file)

at LaunchPad.MainForm.CheckLoginServer()

Any idea what I'm doing wrong or need to do differently?
