Yes I read through them, but not really seeing how data is gleaned from the packets yet. Information such as item stats and details.
Re: VGOEmulator Needs You!
I'd love to do some data collection when more information on the process is available. This was always my comfort food game when other games got me down. I am sad to see it shutting down - and would love to do my part in keeping it alive!
I will live forever or die trying.

Is MySQL set in stone?
If not, PostgreSQL or MariaDB might be better in the long run.
PostgreSQL is pretty close to what SOE is using (EnterpriseDB) and offers additional features that, IMHO, make life as a database maintainer a whole lot easier (PL/PGSQL, for one).
MariaDB is a community fork of MySQL that promises to include additional features as well as performance tweaks. Being a community project means it might have a brighter future than Oracle owned MySQL (which they could can at all times).
Personally I like PostgreSQL*, because it's not MySQL. Likewise, I like MariaDB because it promises to be more than MySQL
*Aside of MySQL and *shudders* Access, it's also the only DB I have any experience in. It's the only one I use daily (it's a part of my groupware), so I can't say much for MariaDB but a lot for PostgreSQL.

Yes, MySQL is our database of choice for this project.

Re: VGOEmulator Needs You!
John,
I'm no programming/code wiz, but I i'm currently playing Vanguard 1-50 as my hoorah experience for the live game. I will gladly collect data if given proper instruction on how to do so. Also, (ironically) i'm a newly minted professional System Administrator Level 1 for a Fortune 300 company that runs 1500 servers across the United States. I am getting pretty intimate with things like SQL DB's, BigFix, VPN's, Performance and Traffic Analysis for server performance. I've only been at the job for a couple of months, but my 15 year background is in Hardware Technician. I'll gladly offer my services to you and yours for the sake of this project. My wife and I both are hardcore Vanguard fans.

Toss my hat into the ring for data collection if needed. I tend to run around the more obscure (and as a result, more broken) areas of the world whilst trying to break things. Might result in some interesting data.

Welcome aboard, Sacred. Find the Data Collection forums to see what's going on currently.
Re: VGOEmulator Needs You!
I'll volunteer to be a data collector. I have no experience in the other areas of expertise. Wish I did. Let me know how I can help. I read up on your information but could not locate the log capture file on the site. Contact me and let me know, thanks.

Welcome, Enkur. See the Data Collection forum for more information. Collecting is an on-going process until they shut the servers down, so jump in anywhere.
