New Server Administrators

I see many new servers popping up lately, though they are usually "Offline". My question to the new server admins is, what can we do to keep your worlds alive? Are there problems you are encountering? or is it the Public vs Private scenario? Or are these new servers merely a quick test you wish to perform, not really intending to run your own server?

For anyone who has not yet hosted an MMO Emulator server themselves, it is truly an amazing feeling to go to your machine and notice a number of players - from across the planet Earth - all logged into your machine sitting in your den or office I strongly encourage anyone to experience this.

A selfish motivation of course is that we get more testing done with different configurations than just mine. If you (admins) have any questions, concerns or issues, please bring them up so we can solve them and make a better server for the community.

Thank you for trying out VGOEmulator!

I was mainly planning on using my server to learn LUA and play around with designing encounters and areas. I might eventually host my own server if I thought my server had anything to add over other servers, but I really don't want to dilute the player base.

I haven't had my server up recently, because it stopped working some time after my ISP changed my IP address. I can start the server and it connects fine. I can create a character, and the character shows up in my database, but when I go to log in to the character, I just hand. I don't know if it is related to the IP change or not. The server manager definitely sees my server, so I'm not sure what the issue is. I have just been too busy lately to do much fiddling. I was thinking of deleting the server and re-creating it.

BTW, it would be handy to be able to use a DNS name instead of an IP for the server. I use dynamic DNS to keep the name up to date, but my ISP changes my IP address every year or so. In any case, if changing my IP address screws up connecting to my server, then I can't host for anyone else until I get a permanent IP (or the EMU can take a DNS name).

My server is a heavily modified server that is only started and used by me when test some code and I don't want other peoples actions filling up the logs while testing. The server is behind a firewall so no outsider will be able to get in.
