Hello All,
Glad to have found this place, I have not found an MMO that comes close to VGSOH, and not for lack of trying. I starting MMORPG gaming Dec '99 when I discovered Everquest, which I played for about 6 years, had over 400 days played on my main and fair whack on alts as well. I have played most/all of the major MMOs since.

My 2 or so years in VG were by far and away my favourite. I had a lot of max level classes, I used to regularly 4-box, I harvested and crafted my own Kojani Guild Hall (Solo). To be clear, I never have and never will use any kind of automation programs as some people do to "box" and or "AFK play". I have rather strong feelings on the matter. I did a lot of crafting back in the day, at one point over 60% of the orange crafted armor on the exchange on my server was made by me.

I also spent time in an Oceanic time raiding guild called Reverence(I hail from Aus), I was one of the raid tanks and an officer, I loved APW, I think it is overall the best designed raid zone I have seen in any game. One of the things that impressed me most about VG is the degree to which the design was thought through, unlike so many other games that seem slapped together by comparison.

I was very unimpressed with the direction SOE took the game when they took it over, it seemed like a short term cash/subs grab at the cost of the long term integrity of the best game I have played. I think that change in design philosophy is what kept me from coming back after RL forced me into a substantial break.

The work you guys have done and are doing is impressive. I appreciate that certain aspects of development require time commitments. I am at the moment not in a position to commit to more than a few hours a week, I would like to contribute if I can. What is best way to start? I am not especially picky, happy to work on what is most needed as long as I am able to do so, I am not a programmer :(

I hope this doesn't come off as bragging too much, just introducing myself :)

Fezikk

Welcome back to VG! I was in Reverence for a bit on my paladin, Lorelei, to help with raids.

If you're not a programmer, the only way to help directly is to go the Content Designer route, but you will have to learn how to code. A lot of what we do is "script kiddy" style work where you basically copy the code from other things, paste, and replace certain variables. It's not terribly difficult but it does get dull and monotonous, and it is time consuming.

The other way to help is to just play. Sometimes we'll ask in discord or on the forums for help or info from players if we can't find what we need. This might not seem like much but it helps a ton.

If you want to try being a Content Designer, let me know and we can go from there.

Cool, the name Lorelei rings a faint bell, but it was such a long time ago :) I was Oboroten(Vulmane DK) and then Fezikk (Warrior) but I didn't join Reverence until well after they broke into APW, Archilles was the MT at the time. When I joined there were too many people to form one raid so they told me and my brother that if we wanted to raid we would need to lead the second(Mauve) raid team, not sure if you were around for that, but that was when I joined.

Seems I can't use the PM feature yet. I am certainly happy to try, I am self taught, but have been working on PCs for 25+ years so I am sure I can learn it is just a matter of time :)
