Devs, please turn your attention to HARDWARE OCCLUSION!

  1. After tinkering around since the F2P launch to improve performance on my machine , i have just about given up as it was keeping me from enjoying the game! There was one thing, however, that really bothered me; the fact that Hardware Occlusion in its current application is buggy. Shrubs and details flicker erraticaly and some objects disappear completely, even in unobstructed views. When this option is selected performance increases by 5-10FPS, but the loss of objects that shouldn't be occluded is a terrible trade-off.
Any plans on taking a look at this? I feel that if it was adressed, there would be alot less noticeable performance issues, especially for those of us that have decent high end hardware.
Anyone else have any performance ideas that havent been covered before?

Jeramie, is your video card drivers up to date? Please make sure it is just in case. I'd recommend submitting a support ticket to our tech team so we can further troubleshoot your issue.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not a driver version issue, because I have seen the same symptom of hardware occlusion across 7 completely separate machines running VG, with a range of cards from a 6600GT through a 560Ti.
  4. +1 for this. Ive got a 560ti with the latest drivers and some areas are horrible. In particular Skrilien Point, on the island where you do the last couple of hunters league quests the whole mountain is covered by invisible trees/shrubs, they physically block you and you don't know what is there until you turn your camera just right and the shrub flickers in and out of view, extremely sloppy looking.

My GTX 580 is currently using the latest WHQL certified drivers from nVidia version 301.42. A this point I'm done messing with settings. I know this problem isn't limited to me, and it doesnt make the game unplayable (as long as Hardware Occlusion is OFF) so i didn't feel a need to make a specific ticket. I did however want to turn the attention to it. It may be an overlooked part of the engine that yall could take some time to clean up?
Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the response though! :)

Add me to that list. I've got a 560ti myself and I get the same problem when I enable it. Tons of flickering shrubs and whatnot. I've been keeping it turned off (since I'm normally able to stay at around 60fps most of the time, fortunately), but anything that can boost fps by 5-10 overall is definitely worth allocating some time to fix.

Just that you know... Hardware occlusion has never worked correctly. I have personally tested several cards with dozens of driver versions over the years with no luck and I do not know anyone who would have gotten it to work correctly.

QFT. It's kinda shocking that his first response is about driver issues considering the fact that it's never worked correctly. It's literally been broken for years.
