Hello fellow necromancers! I love my level 31 necro and I know they only get cooler and cooler (as do all classes it seems). I'm wondering how a necro holds up at level 55 against other DPS classes. I'm guessing we can still solo just fine (right?) but how do we fair in the group and the raid scene? I noticed my 32 rog kills 2 dot mobs at the same speed as my necro. Save for the times when he kills mobs in a single round (which is once every minute). I know 2 dot mobs aren't a necros bread and butter but its all my rog can solo efficiently so I figured I'd compare them on that ground. Here are my questions: Is the necro class severely over played at 55? Or is that just discs and rangers? Are we needed/wanted in raids at 55? Can we still solo well at 55? In fast paced groups do we feel sort of left out/useless do to no burst damage? Or do our nukes make up a difference I don't yet see at 31?
while i am not a necro (save for my two little newbcromancers) i have raided with and/or grouped with several excellent necros so my feedback is based on watching them and listening to their comments. one major piece of advice i can give you is play a class that you enjoy playing, don't worry about if there are a bazillion necros at endgame or if there are two and they get passed around by raiding guilds ect. one good player playing a class that they enjoy is worth a dozen people just going through the motions playing/boxing a toon because it is needed.
Necro is great. If its ur play style. They are great for kiting.. 3-5dots IMO. Raiding, they have great buffs for casters and melee. They also do pretty good dps(not rogue,sorc,ranger,Druid dps) but still good. Plus it's just fun archetype to play.. Feign death, fear, life taps, and a pet you get better and better graphs to equip. Including raid graphs. Not to over played. Not like my sorcy hehe.
I cant wait to test the revised epic out (Thank you all for the much needed epic vamp), but I always wished the necro epic made your pet as large as the abomination during final griffon mount raid = P or at least make your pet into a complete monster of dps for like 1 min.... lol or even better yet... your pet turns into a super tiny undead brownie!!!
as i have been playing a necro for.....7 years?..i still suck play a necro..please!!..my meat has been worn to the nub!..and stepped on..touched..clicked..eatin..gobbled..so on... though id like a necro only spell ala EQ. shrink pet..Bingo is always in the way or the tanks and casters..healers... and from the mass healers and such yammering at me for soul blight..id say we are somewhat needed for raids..can solo well at 55. just have to pick and choose your areas. DD/nukes arent real good but we can get a few good hits in( not like a sorc).
My now main is a 55 sorc..(which bye is the over played caster class cause we can mad aoe kite) but that's not what life is all about.. My old main.. Like 2 mains ago, was a 50 necro(pre 55 hehe) and it was awesome.. Could easily kite 2 lvl 50 4 dots at once. And in my 3 dot areas I would fear kite (reverse kiting) 4 mobs at the same time.. Good times.
