BMG or Shaman?

  1. Hello,
I want to create either a bloodmage or a shaman. I have a few questions.
Q: Which is more reliable/desired for heals endgame?
Q: Which can solo harder mobs? (4dot)
    Q: Which can solo faster?
Q: Which does more dps (if specd for it)
  2. 1, BM is rarer and very desired endgame especially raidwise, Shamans are not as rare but equally desired.
2, Shaman hands down. Doubt BM can solo any 4 dots on their own of similar level, could be wrong though.
3, Guess theyre quite equal, if they solo 2-3 dots. BM has excellent energy regen and heals by doing damage so no real downtime, but they cant solo as tough mobs as the shaman.
    4, Shaman ( Rakuur patron )
The bloodmage is a bit of an enigma among the healers, its a colossal healer with a LOT of nifty tricks, but it is also a cloth armor waering class.
    Enjoy!

I just want to correct a little bit here...
Bloodmages can put out some very impressive DPS if you're spec'd for it and wearing the right equipment. If you're focusing on tap heals (and you should be until you start dealing with mobs that absorb damage types) you want as much spell focus as you can get. The more damage you do, the more health you return.
The thing with a bloodmage as opposed to the other healers, is that when you spec for damage you don't lose out on your healing.
A Rakurr Shaman (and even a disciple) who spec's hard into DPS is going to lose healing abilities.
That said, a Shaman is a bit more tough than a Bloodmage and can take hits a bit better. Their armour makes it so they get hit less often and not quite as hard, disrupting your spells less.
Both are excellent classes though, and both highly useful.

I have a level 10 BMG and am loving her so far.. such a unique class. While she is still a very low level I cant really speak to end game but I must say her abilities are very unique. Very squishy altho I have been able to solo all the quests she has attempted so far.
I would say to give both a try :)
  5. I only just rolled one, but I can already see where the challenge of BMG is going to lie. From what I understand a BMG played great is the most powerful class in the game.

In the end try them both to 20... playing a class you enjoy is far more important than which is better is a given situation. They are both such a different experience they are difficult to compare side by side.

Preposterous regarding solo capabilitys, tell me what you even can solo in SoD for example?
Furthermore NO shaman WHATSOEVER can use any pet to tank unless he is utterly crappy. How can a weak pet hold aggro against a Shaman who both deals damage and heals? The bear pet is awesome because it strips enchantment and has a force taunt + a mit debuff. It cant hold aggro at all on its own. You can maybe use the pet for tanking while you debuff dot up the mob, but not more than that. Unless you specced horribly and deal bad damage.
Regarding which kills faster it would be Rakuur ahead of both bear and BM, probably BM, but BM cant solo near the same difficult mobs as the Bear which is probably the most powerfull soloer of the healers.
BM is the nr 1 choice for Group 1 healer in raids, is a fantastic group healer that has no aggro issues and no mana issues whatsoever with a sweet combination of heals and buffs. But it is probably the least solo firendly healer and thats a fact.

That is absolutely false in every respect. Hayatets are the lowest DPS of all three Shaman Patrons, nowhere near holding a candle to a Rakuur, and Bloodmages can double if not triple the maximum dps that a Hayatet can generate.
  9. If I had to choose between a Shaman and Blood mage for a group I would go with the blood mage. For some reason I find fewer wipes, more sound and consistent heals. I don't know I think BM are better for plowing through stuff without sweating a whole lot (on my warrior or Sorc).
  10. My 49 BMG solos 4dots on the cliffs outside of New Targ quite a bit...and not kiting or snaring, just taking massive rock fists to the face. Quite easy to solo them in about half swamp armor (pre-raid level gear), DPS spec'd...just takes a bit of time, no real concentration needed...Im normally talking in MSN or watching Netflix at the same time :p
When I have the time to, I can also heal groups pretty easy by just burning whatever the tank is hitting and keeping an eye on the group's HP and switching deffensive targets as needed for Entwining Vein (DD/Tap heal).
No experience with raid healing with the BMG as of yet, but looking forward to it once I get time to really play again.
