Game shuts down when trying to open [Resolved - Solution inside]

  1. Hi Sony Support.
Yesterday I downloaded and installed Vanguard. Everything went smooth and I opened the game, changed the graphic settings (resolution, graphic level ect), closed the game and went to bed.
Today I opened the launcher, pressed play and waited for a few seconds whilst the Vanguard splash-screen popped up. Afterwards my screen turned black for about a second and the game closed. No error, no warning, no nothing. I've tried multiple times and usually the launcher is still open when the game closes, but sometimes that closes aswell.
    I've tried to:
    - Update DirectX 9.0 from the Microsoft Homepage
    - Update my graphic driver from nVidia's homepage
    - Reinstall the game via the game installer
    - Uninstall the game and install it from scratch
    - Restart my PC multiple times
    - Diable ALL firewall and antivirus programs on my computer
    - Validate Game Assets multiple times
As I'm using two displays, I disconnected my secondary display, to make sure this wasn't an issue. No luck.

    Specs:
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit (6.1, Build 7601)
    Intel Core I7-2600K
    Nvidia 570 GTX
    8gb ram
DirectX Version: DirectX 11 (9.0C is updated as well)

    Any suggestions?

    *Update 1*
    - I've tried to edit the VGClient config to make sure the game didn't start in Fullscreen, this did not help.
    - I've tried to delete the TEMP files in %AppData% created by Sony Online Entertainment.

    Neither worked.
  2. I would suggest ensuring that your current installation of Microsoft's .Net Framework is compeltely up to date to ensure that the game will run correctly. You can download the software update here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...s.aspx?id=17718
If your problem persists please open a support ticket with us including your dxdiag and msinfo files so we can assist you further with this issue.
  3. Hi. Thank you. I've made sure the .Net Framework is updated. I'm not sure it was before, but it is now. Unfortunately this didn't help.
  4. There is a log file in the bin directory. Check that to see what error it is showing.
  5. Hi Rateif, thank you for that suggestion. I've had a look at it, and something seems quite odd:

  6. Those are strange warnings, but from my experience warnings won't cause the game to crash. Are there any Error lines?
It sounds like the game cannot find the dll files that it is looking for. I have no idea why it can't since you stated that you re-validated game assets. Do you see an 'OpenAL32.dll' file in your bin directory? If not then it looks like you are missing some files. Either that or for some reason the game executable doesn't have access to read the files it wants.

    OpenAL32.dll is there.
I just had another look and there is indeed 1 error:
    2012-08-08 20:47:25 1344451635 112 2 4299928852 Error: Creating shader PS_UberShader: D3DERR_INVALIDCALL
  8. That sounds like a DX error, but you said that DX9 is up to date.
The only other thing I can think of is to delete the Caches folder in the bin folder... or you could try to just delete the entire bin folder, but that will be a large redownload.

Thanks Rateif, I'll try that. Just got off a chat with the Sony support who couldn't help. They'll shoot me an e-mail when they have an answer. Oh well, can't blame the lad, not much to troubleshoot on without an error.

Thanks to Rateif my game is now working. I deleted the "Caches" folder in the "Bin" inside the install directory of Vanguard. This worked.
