    • "Touch of Leaves" Please remove from the Cloak of Burrs/Monsoon Cloak and give us an all-in-one like all the other buffing classes. Would even be willing to farm another Rune of Battle for this. Could even call the new buff Touch of Leaves and add the Razorshroud I, Bark Shied, Speed of the Tempest I, add something new like 5-10% Global Recovery Haste.
    • Discharging Arrow, Wave of Lightning and Splintered Shaft are supposed to 'dissipate and release energy'/'splinter' for a second wave of damage - neither does.
    • Fix the display of Furious. At 10+m range, you never see the 'Mob is FURIOUS' pop up, and only randomly see it in chat - you can kill yourself before it ever shows.
    • Chains seem to have much lower hit rate than regular attacks.
    • Fix the toggle "+" for cloaks and talismans. I sometimes see the toggle on when the cloak/talisman is not, and sometimes the toggle is off when the cloak/talisman is on.
    • Make Campfire drop at our feet. I lose probably half my campfires to them dropping under corpses, inside walls, etc.

    • Strength for ranged rangers. There is ABSOLUTELY no use for this stat as a Ranged Ranger. Yet, there is almost 0 gear that a Ranged Ranger can get to maximize his stats because you don't take the time to make Dex/Vit gear for the light fighters. Put SOME use for ranged rangers on the STR stat -- Whether it's as simple as 'While in Precision Style Dexterity is increased by an amount equal to your Strength.' or 'While in Precision stance, Dexterity and Vitality are increased by an amount equal to half your strength'
    • De-agro: Shorten the recast, remove from GCD, or make more effective (Or, preferably, all three.) Possibly implement an Endurance using one for Ranged specialized rangers.
    • Increased damage on pretty much every 51+ ability.
    • Decrease chance of Stealth being detected so that it's closer to Invis -- or better than invis, since invis doesn't slow the caster.
    • AoE Chain for the bow. Melee gets a 3 tier AoE finisher, Ranged should as well. (It's already unequal in that they have 3 seperate finishers, though that evens out with ours not having timers)
    • Change the Ranger minion to a pet; allowing it to be renamed and to not suicide to every mob. Increased HP and damage output appreciated as well.
    • Change Melee and Ranged tooltips to list what types of damage they deal, the same as Spells do.
    • Armor Set (Set Bonus included) are optimized for melee ranger but not for ranged ranger ! Adjust the same amount of DEX and STR on all piece or give choice between 2 sets, one for melee and the other for ranged
    • DPS of melee ranger is always highter than ranged ranger, up the ranged ranger DPS
    • Ditch the charm and give Rangers a real pet. The charm is fairly lame anyway.
    • Deaggro needs a boost.
Alot of these have been suggested already just making a list for convenience.

Some good suggestions in here. But, why would you want to stack vit on a ranger as opposed to str? You're not a healer, and you already have speed buffs. However, you do carry melee weapons and have a goodly amount of melee attacks. Don't get the logic on that one. Also, pets for rangers? No! Rangers already put out really good dps and have good survivability solo with snares and speed buffs, actual pets would put them way over the top OP.

there really is no such thing as a ranged ranger and a melee ranger, there is only a ranger. when you refuse to use half your abilities you are the one gimping your dps, not the abilities/gear/ect. that said i have always felt that all of the t3 melee armour pieces needed more dex, even with maximum stats sent into dexterity and lots of dexterity primals there is often that i end up with a 100 point difference between str and dex when in most situations.

while i wouldn't mind a more powerful deaggro for the ranger, i think it is good as it is. because they do not have massive aggro dumps like the rogues and monks or the super spamable deaggro that the bards do, it forces the rangers to manage their agro. some of this is also mitigated by the epic which does a hate push.

no real need to up the damage of the 51+ abilities, sure all the rangers wouldn't mind but they are good where they are now.
the stealth issue is one that rogues and puppy shaman would love to see addressed because as of right now it is mostly useless at endgame because far too many mobs are coded to ignore it.

most, if not all, the abilities list the type of damage they do. they may list it as arcane finisher, or fire finisher, but they list it. i'd check which ones might not be very explicit, but the server is down now so can't really check.

as for campfire, it always spawns about 4m away from you to the southwest. it doesn't need to be changed to spawn at your feet... that would only serve to trap your feet and get you stuck, which while fun to watch for non-rangers, would be rather frustrating for rangers.

as for the minion, the ranger epics transform said minion into a pet, giving it a good amount of survivability so aoe's don't blow it up and it lets you name it (though it would be nice if it didn't need to be re-summoned anytime you mounted up). rangers in vanguard never were meant to be a pet class and the minion is more of a fluff/utility ability and to make it more than it already is would, like the poster above mentioned, unbalance the class.

what rangers really could use is a decent epicable bow since the ones that are epicable are lower damage than the ones that were available 4 years ago. (though people have mentioned a bow from city of brass, but i haven't seen stats on it linked yet so this might be slightly less relevant now).

The best way to play a ranger is using both melee and ranged, If you haven't figured this out yet you're prolly not qualified to talk about changing anything with the way rangers are played though I do agree our regress deaggro is a total waste of space and global cooldown.

I cant push stances unless in precision stance and i cant change stances on the fly anymore. Ranged ranger is a playstle choice and armor sets are focused for melee. The best way is irrelevant as i said its playstyle.
  6. Glenzig Well-Known Member

Well with every choice comes consequence. If you do t want to get down and dirty and melee a mob, then you'll have some drawbacks to your class. Remember that's your choice, not the way the class was designed.

still doesnt change the fact that armour sets are melee focused, they could change that and make the stats general crit, damage ect that would benifit both bow and melee.
since we have skills for bows and long cooldowns on stances it seems to me that the class was designed to be played either melee or ranged.
  8. Glenzig Well-Known Member

So basically what you're saying is that even though rangers are designed to be a mix of ranged/melee, since you would prefer to only do ranged damage the devs need to reitemize melee armor accordingly? Yeah that sounds logical.
  9. BlackEternity New Member

I never said anything about stats only having ranged damage. armour sets for ranger is unbalanced, having general stats would beifit both melee and ranged.
you should read before you reply.

you have two stance pushes, one for ranged, one for melee. so you can always push stances unless you are in evassive.

as for the stats, endgame gear is general damage not specific so other than it being str heavy there is no distinction between ranged and melee for it. if you are refering to non-endgame gear then it is mix and match, so not really a need to change it unless the ot set is wonkey, and i haven't had the chance to check that yet.

its mostly sub classes and itemization i was getting at.
i wasnt aware that i had a melee stance pusher, i thought there was only (forget the name) the ranged on.

Can we get Swelter to be a melee based attack again? We are not the 6th or 7th caster class (ranking depending on how you view bards)

Right now it appears to be a spell cast with 3 endurance using melee abilities. At least it behaves that way most of the time.
Static surge shouldn't be a spell either.

Both of the signature DoTs should key off of an appropriate main stat, i.e. str and dex, and not int. Melee crit, accuracy, damage, crit damage bonus, and strikethru should affect them, not spell stats.

Grunther, when did that get changed? Last that I recall the melee dot was strength based and the ranged one was dexterity based. It's rare that I get to play my ranger anymore, so I missed this one.

There has been many changes to ranger class over the years it is hard to keep track or even remember many of the changes.
Swelter used to be based on the strength stat and Static Surge was based on dex stat.I do believe they got changed to intel when they last updated the ranger class. I am to lazy atm to look thru patch notes but the devs added tooltips to our abilities around this time last year, I do believe they also nerfed ferocity at the same time.
Please correct me if im wrong but Destructive Swarm, Entangle and Dusk Arrow all had a fixed damage output. Poison Shot is the only ability that I recall being based on intel.
Not sure who's bright idea it was to change swelter and static surge to intel but I wish they would change it back. I can only assume somebody had their stats capped and figured they could fill the left over aug slots with caster crap.
I do not see a problem with our deaggro ability, some tanks are wait a couple of seconds to engage while others are wait till 95% and so on. My point is know who's tanking and adjust accordingly.
As for ranged only rangers, the gear available is just fine.Although it would be nice to have another bow besides the chicken bow and Finch bow for end game. I am not going to tell you how to play your class but you are missing out on a lot of dps by just flinging arrows at mobs.
In closing please change Swelter and Surge back to being governed by strength and dex not intel, we are not casters.

did some testing today and it confirmed what grunther said, swelter damage increases with int, while dusk arrow, poison shot and static surge did not.
could this please get fixed so that one of the main ranger combinations uses stats that rangers actually use?
  16. Schiller Well-Known Member

    Yes, please fix this!

Hello fellow rangers and gaming developers…

I would like this discussion to continue and to provide a bump to this thread.

    Campfires

This ability seems a bit outdated and a couple tweaks may improve its functionality.

    · Allow for multiple campfires in raid format.

    · Add Rez affects to subside as health and energy max out.

    · Allow Jin, Pheno, Countenance, and Virtue points to refresh.

    · Refresh potion timers.

The last 2 bullets maybe overpowered, but if a raid just wiped to a mob, why not allow the players to try it again with max stats. Campfires can only be used while not in combat or locked in a raid encounter so only speeds up the downtime between fights.

    Swelter

What is the updates regarding this melee dot? As others have addressed the damage dealt should be based off our strength stat not intelligent.

    Bow & Quiver

Please add a true ranger epic bow to City of Brass loot table as it is now with the focus item I would be require to add another macro to switch items as I move in and out to apply bow dots. How about combining the Planar Scarred Ammo Case and the Araznik together??

    Ranger Epic Bug

Does it really exist? A raid mob suddenly dies while having more than 50% of its life, Why? “Oh it’s the ranger epic bug again…” I have no idea how to do it or recreate it but I would like it to never happen again, I think it’s lame and rather embarrassing. It does not show up in combat logs and it doesn’t say who killed it. I remember growing up scoring an “Epic Hits” or was it “Legendary Hits” against lowbie mobs that did a huge amount of damage, does it stem from that? I thought that was reworked, does that combine with our highest epic proc and oneshots the mob? Is it us? I actually think its something a cleric does…8) FIX IT!

    Thanks for your time.
