Guild House or Guild Hall

Our guild is considering to start the huge project that building a Guild Hall supposes. The few of us that have been part of a guild with GHall, can't remember all the differences between having a House or a Guild Hall as Headquarters since it has been so long ago.

From what we can remember, appart from the look and the size of the GHall the only other benefit is being able to put 12 chests.

Are there other differences we may have missed or forgotten?

A Guild Hall represents the effort a guild puts in getting things done and great team work, but still would be nice to get a few more benefits matching the effort put in building it.

Are there any plans for the future regarding Guild Halls?

    Thanks in advance for inputs.

as you have stated, the main difference between GH and house is size and number of chests. In the past when you could only have one house, if you used your house as the GH you essentially gave up your space to share it with others. now, you can have 2 houses. That makes it better to let one be a GH and the other be personal. I recommend doing that while you work on the massive project of building a GH. Unlike other SOE games, the GH has no purpose other than storage and a secondary recall, it is, however, a source of pride.

Many many many times over we (players) have asked for improvements to the usefulness of GHs. We've gone as far to suggest quests that are long as the Griffon line to get merchants, banks, crafting tables/vendors ect....to no avail. Possibly one day they'll be more than glorified storage space and truly a space a guild can use to grow. I do agree that it IS a source of pride to have one though. :)

I remember, (or think I remember), someone saying that the initial intent was to add npcs to Guild Halls, but that never happened. At some point, what they did, was making sure there was a crafting area, mail and npcs no more than 1 chunk away. It was a relatively good solution that benefits GH and house owners, but obviously was not exactly what guild hall owners expected.

You can buy crafting stations in EQ2 and put them in your house. You can even craft portable crafting stations and use them everywhere. Also place npcs in your house, ...they do nothing, but still. Why is it so difficult to do something similar in VG?

While it would be great! to have something extra for the guild halls, I would strongly vote against adding existing city services to guild halls. While it would make the guild halls more alive it would make the cities and not to mention the crafting outposts emptier.

Something I would love to be able to add, for example to a guild hall, is a target practice dummy. I wouldn't mind buying it with SC. Could even have a more valuable variant in the form of Slappy the Cool :p.

I hardly ever see someone crafting in Varryn Dunes or The Infieneum Plateaus outposts and if so they probably are just grinding factions. Most people seem to craft in Tanvu since it is one of the most accesible crafting areas with all vendors at hand including exotic vendor. I think adding crafting stations to GH wouldn't change that, but probably never will happen.

Adding stuff you can buy from SC is an option, but probably not what most players would expect after all the effort building it and keeping it up for so many years like in some cases. SC items/upgrades for GH would be a plus if other improvements could be added through quests or other ingame ways too as Isoel said.

I understand the idea of putting stuff on the SC to help support the game, but there is taking it to far with putting every upgrade/new thing on SC. Some players only have the $ they earn in-game to pay for their in-game items. I have no problem supporting the game, I have multipul subscribed accounts.

I do think that the # of people crafting at an outpost at any given time is low, & adding crafting stations/npc's to GH isn't going to alter that. When I said NPCs' I did mean basic utilites vendors, not taskmasters (imo those should stay at outposts). I do think it's about time that Guild Halls get more use. One thing I've always loved are the Founders Statues & Kotasoths' Head. Would be awesome for more items in-game like that. Reguarding the OP topic though, GHs' should be more useful.

Let us buy crafting stations with City Faction coins for GH and houses. Give those plats stacking up some use, please! There are so many things that could be done with items/content arleady in game...

As a primary builder on two T5 Guild Houses I can attest to the sheer volume of work required.

Brains and Brawn just recently erected theirs after about a 4 month serious run. We had about 10 primary people involved in the project. We also had some very large and small donations from the community. It still was for 4 months about 85% of the game time utilized for those primary players.

With level being a biggest hindrance, since it is all T5 and T6 harvests, and the heavy req for diplo and crafted items, you will find many of your guild unable to help.

    My advice:

    - Make sure you and your player base is ready for the project.
    - Schedule group harvest runs
    - in advance kinda decide who will build what, you do not want to burn out one crafter over another
    - Be ready for the game grind of your life.

In the end? So worth it, for not other reason then to sit back and have a beer on the back patio over looking the houses around it, one of my best game days in any game was our GH erecting day, even of Kotasoth did decide to visit, and have a snack.

For those of that that roleplay, the hall also serves that purpose and provides atmosphere. Our hall is being built primarily for the roleplaying but of course the chests will be quite useful as well. As Exmortis said, be prepared for the enormous amount of work involved. Our hall won't be setting any records for being built fast. In fact it will probably set a record for being one of the longest time consuming ones built! In the end it'll be worth it and Blackstone will be proud to call it their new home. (which isn't too far away now!)

I agree with a functional Guild Hall. We had a fantastic one in EQ2. It promoted interaction with the people that matter the most in any game, friends and family. It encouraged outsiders to want to be a part of a larger guild experience. When you did things in the hall, you felt a sense of pride and accomplishment that working as a team to build something unique provides. Standing next to a craft station often by yourself or next to a stranger grunting from complications is not a social experience. Listening to an NPC spew out the same diatribe is not a social experience. Meeting with some friends that you helped build the hall with and doing things in that hall is!

Don't you dare erect it with out annoucing time and date, if I am free I wish attend and celebrate it with you.

If any guild takes on the GH build, let me know. I can rally some help within the guild. We have alot to pay forward and I want to spread it out over those who need it.

I wouldn't think of it! You've been most instrumental in helping us. The rate we're gathering granite, I'm projecting the hall will be completed within 4-5 weeks give or take a week or 2.

I agree, Blackstone will provide whatever assistance they can. Had we tried to build ours without any outside help, it would have taken probably 2 years to build ours by the time the characters were leveled to craft, harvest and the endless.... granite!
