What is considered the minimum performance to play VG?

For the benefit of the more tech minded, I have tried playing today to see how things stand and it says my ping has a roundtrip of 500 and upwards. I am only getting 5 or 6 FPS, and that is with everything switched off that I can and all graphics set to absolute minimum. Movement is a series of jerks and not at all smooth, combat is impossiable for anything except my Druid because need the Roots to keep them away long enough to kill them.

5 FPS is way to low to play for sure. I would say 15-20 FPS as minimum. I know that that 5 fps is not playable, reminds me of when I first got into beta 7 yrs ago. I had 1-5 fps back then , and it was totally unplayable. Only after upgrading hardware Beta became playable.

I also play from Europe and used to be on Halgar server too. On Halgar I used to get 140-200 ping, on Telon it is 220-300 which is still very playable. My FPS is typically 60 minimum and 80+ at most places, only exception is at raids, and my FPS did not go down in any way after switching to Telon. So I find it very doubtful that your low FPS is a server issue. Sounds like you need to either upgrade your hardware or some drivers. Can you post your hardware specs?

Not at home this week, so not got specs handy, but it only seems to affect VG Telon server. Halgar wasn't affected and had a ping of 80-120 and around 60-80FPS, LotRO has no problems, nor does WoW, Aion or Rift. Which is what makes me think it is a Telon server problem in some way.

for what its worth, I have 4 different machines with vanguard on them. one is 5 years old with a mediochre card an old Pentium dual core processor. Another is a Windows 8 machine that is basically a tablet. my other machines have 450 or better cards and one has a SSD. The only time I get low fps and choppy response is on the tablet device. I am on USA West coast , so that adds strength to your concern that the distance from server is an issue. However, even my worst setup gets me more than 20 fps in general play. The exception to that is when my daughters are on one of our machines doing video streaming, or playing another game. Then the issue is clearly bandwidth. My experience while living and working in Europe is that there are more frequent bandwidth issues depending on the ISP and your own combination of programs that are running. Try to look at the whole picture as you continue to deal with the issue. good luck

After the server restart on Thursday I tried playing again and this time I started a new character at the Kojani startpoint, rushed through the Shang Island bit (which actually worked so much better and with far less lag than usual), ran to Tanvu and teleported/Pegasus to Grimsea Watch in Martock. All right! No lag and performance 100% better than I have seen for weeks, it was like playing on Halgar again! Ping down from 500+ to around 240, FPS up from 5-6 to about 25-30fps. I then tried going back to my level 8 character on the Isle of Dawn - lag city! It is far better than it was before Thursday, but still lags and stutters. Went back to my new Goblin in Martok - no lag! So it is definitely affected by server population in the specific area I am playing in. The busier the area the worse lag gets, in Martok I was the only player in the region despite it being a Saturday evening (GMT), on Isle of Dawn server population showed a considerable number (/ENTER stops at about 20+)
