Returning yet again, some questions

We as a group ran the Temple of Ancestors yesterday. There were a a few quests that can be completed while inside the temple. Quite a nice instance and not too long that it takes ages to complete.

This quest can be completed inside the temple and rewards a nice cape. The next quest is to leave the Isle of Dawn if you wish to do so.

I have a question; I'm doing my diplomatic quests and some of them require me to parley with NPCs that require Academic of 10. How on Telon do I raise it that high?!
  3. Flamecrest New Member

I had the same question a few days ago! I reached level 10 in that presence through gear that boosted the academic stat. The gear was obtained through doing a quest over the river if I recall. I had around level 6 and needed 10 I think to be able to Parley with a certain NPC. I later did a quest and the reward was a piece of gear that raised the academic skill.

I think the skill can be raised by doing a parley with the NPC's under the conversation: academic skill. I'm not sure how much the skill increases by or at what speed. I'm not 100% sure on this so maybe someone else can confirm this.

Also, don't forget to check the diplomacy bag for any gear that you might have earned through diplomacy quests and maybe forgot to equip it. These items could boost the diplomacy presence level you need.

Thanks Flamecrest, I'll keep at it and see how it goes :)

You will gain innate presence as you do parleys of a particular station. I forget how the calculation works but if you're doing an academic parley over and over, you can expect to gain an innate point of academic presence every 7 or 8 parleys.

The best way to rapidly raise your presence is through gear. I'm not as familiar with diplo on IoD, but at the beginning presence gear is harder to find, but gets easier as you level. Once you're beyond level 45 in diplo you'll have thousands of each presence.

That's a definite method. It will come up again before long, too. You may be able to find diplomacy gear on the exchange; get from quests, or win in parleys; plus certain civic diplomacy buffs increase presences, requiring one to be able to travel around Telon, of course. Doing multiple civic parleys to score your points or push buffs is the "grindy" side I was getting at, once you see those dialogues, it's always the same and you just play the board.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

Yeah Amnath, I've started seeing the grindy side of diplomacy :( I still enjoy it, for now anyways.

Another question; is the exchange available on the IOD?

there are also civic buffs from others doing diplo that can raise your presence. if you have infomap (from soresha.net) a complete list of civic buffs and where to push them is on one of the map tabs.

No exchange or mail, the closest link to civilization anyone would have is Guild.

I never force myself to diplo or anything like that religiously; it's more of just a relaxer from time to time. There is the envoy horse thing and a quest line that's pretty good, but it leaves big gaps in the leveling of it afterwards. One other advantage to old starting points is they tend to drop a couple of cards along the way while killing stuff; not sure if you get those on IoD.

Thanks guys. No, I haven't received card drops from mobs but I have received some from quests.

This thread is home to a lot of useful information, I hope other newbies are looking at it :)

Sorry for the double post, though this may be useful; if you get stuck in the environment the command to free yourself is "/stuck" (more specifically, "/stuck yes" as you need to confirm that you're not exploiting the function). Saved my hide once after too maybe jumps across the top of a wooden wall :)

Yes hopefully it is of general service to many. The nice thing about it is the forum sits there for a while. While it is true you can often get real time help in general, in many cases when we're busy we pay no attention to chat. What gets me is when folks throw out a question and then ten seconds later its "No one knows?!?!?!" or something snippy like that. Even now, people are grousing about f2p restrictions. Absolutely pointless. Unfortunately, GMs can't monitor complaints; profanity, drug reference, religion and politics they can.
  13. Cyph Member

LOL there are almost NO FP2 restrictions! ;)
  14. Amnath Active Member

Well you'd think, but I guess that's not good enough for some people. How much of your work and equipment do you give away to the general public for nothing? Item unlockers are even available on the exchange as well.
  15. Cyph Member

    That's exactly right.

Would these item unlockers be what I need to open some of these gold chests I am carrying around?
  16. Amnath Active Member

No. The dropped lockboxes and various locked chests laying around are opened by skeleton keys--another marketplace item flipped for game cash on the exchange.

Item unlockers are for any item saying membership required--more powerful items may cost more than one charge of the unlocker. People were generally complaining that items of yellow/rare quality or better are locked. There is plenty of green/common stuff comes in at the 20s aimed right at f2p--some of these items are better than yellow. The color or rarity of stuff is essentially meaningless when viewed against the item's stats. The actual power level of gear needed to get by revolves largely around how tough of stuff you want to be able to solo. It won't affect bard songs really--until you get into high levels most instruments are white/blue.

As far as the boxes, they are 90% junk but I've heard numerous times of someone getting a flying mount on their first one; also, some drop legendary/red items. It's considered a lottery. Might get an energy potion, one or more keys back from it...who knows. All depends on how much you are willing to pay, and in what form.
  17. Cyph Member

Oh dang. Ok, well, I'm not one for marketplace purchases, I prefer the traditional sub model if I'm going to spent my money.

I have another question (really, you deserve a medal); what instrument do I use with my songs? I'm using the drums with my healing song (as I received both at the same time) but I recently obtained my first run speed song and lute; should I be using both of those together?

    Cheers once again :)
  18. Amnath Active Member

I think that is backwards, drums should be run song and lute is for healing and regen. Those are the only two I have used. There is also brass and voice, which I think voice is built into a few masks or something. If I haven't used brass, that's probably because it would substitute for weapons on damage songs. And we're not going to do that, we're going to lash out with weapons because bard does some tasty melee damage and it's fun. There may be a handful of high level bosses on which you might be expected to stand there with the best brass in game but that's about it. I've never even seen it done but of course my tank would be two shotted by those.

If you decide to sub, look for a sale; I don't know if any are coming up. When you do that, it gives you 500 station cash per month; that would give you a key ring about once every three months, and that would be the extent to which I would play lottery since it's a handout. A lot of that stuff on the exchange is insanely priced as these item drops have grossly inflated the economy.
  19. Cyph Member

Thanks Amnath, I'll fix up my macros and keep an eye out for sales ;)

Wait a sec... inflated the economy, overpriced? Wouldn't it deflate it if there aren't a lot of players?

Some of it is realistic and some is misguided. You put a piece of leveling gear in there for 8g that vendors for 30s...usually unrealistic. On those, the 8g one probably sits for full term without selling, and when someone lists the same thing for 70s, I buy it, no one sees it, the 8g myth endures and then someone thinks listing it for 7g is a deal. Certain rare items with equipped effects might actually be worth it, but not most of that stuff.

If a box mount vendors for 80g or a plat, you can get your money instantly, or sell it to a player for 1.5 p. Do that a few times and then you're into high end augs for 15p. Same with the items, it might be actually worth a plat at level 31, I still wouldn't buy it. It's all relative. I have stuff like that I could sell for 10-15p anytime, but I keep it, so I'm relatively poor. I must have 100 lockboxes and at least that much BoE stuff that could be worth scads of cash, I just collect it for whenever. On the opposite side of me are probably several people who would sling several plat on a 30s alt without blinking, even so, they're probably too savvy to overpay for the stuff that wasn't realistically priced. And then on the third side are those who can master craft anything and don't need to buy at all. Some of the top of the line crafted stuff is really snazzy as well.
