Future Itemization

Ok, fair warning you will all hate this post, but here it is because there doesn't seem to be another place to put this...

    I DON'T CARE
about the latest incarnation of itemisation
or how everyone's gear will be obsolete
or which purple augment I can shove into which glowing orifice.

The forums are full of noisy high-end raiders who have been around forever and I don't blame the devs for rushing to fulfill your needs, but there are others of us who play Vanguard and so although I feel like a lone voice in the wilderness (probably somewhere up in the far northeast of Thestra), I'm probably not.

I was there at launch, then I left, I came back, performance was still crap, left again, now performance is fixed but the world is broken. Travel was integral to Vanguard's design, it was built for exploration, but there is now nothing to see beyond the yellow brick road. I used to pay but now I've stopped, I really wish there was something worth paying for. I don't want a flying mount, they break the world design just like the riftstones make so many quests meaningless. Give me a world worth exploring and you will have my dollars.

I'm honestly happy for you all that you will have a new Cave of Wonders and an exciting new raid and fabulous new gear, and I certainly don't expect flying mounts or riftstones to be removed from the game, but is it too much to ask for a little dev loving in some unexplored corners of the world? I can't help thinking that you guys are focused on the spreadsheets and have forgotten to look up through the trees to wonder what's over the horizon.

Ah hell, it's all been said before.

I certainly don't hate the post. Telon is a massive world with an amazing amount of areas to explore.
Some of us though have spent all of these years levelling up multiple toons to 55 and/or helping out people at lower levels by mentoring. This has certainly led me to every corner of the world of Telon.
I am still amazed by the size and scope of the world of Telon but unfortunately; I currently know what is over that horizon.

perhaps you missed it when instead of anticipated new content for high end players we got revamps of lower level areas and a completely redone lomshir . the lorestone travels re-exposed players to dozens of never or underused dungeons. I may be missing something here, but if you believe that new high end content is being done at the expense of lower level work then you haven't been paying attention to the last few years. even OT got a revamp to help the 50 to 55 crowd,. Its just my opinion, but the raiding crowd hasn't been given a new dungeon for anything but 12 man raids since APW. COW is a long-awaited step towards rewarding those that stayed and continued to play.

Thank you for quiting, coming back, quiting, not financially supporting VG, and then telling the majority of players what we should expect in return for staying, paying and supporting VG. Your words should inspire the powers that be at SOE why catering to the game hoping FTP crowd is an economic failure.

I hope you guys keep at it, can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.

Only question is can the new gear even come close to comparing to this?[IMG]

sadly, it sounds like a lot of the gear we'll be starting out with in cow won't. only as we start collecting more augs through craft and whatever the defiance set is will we start to see similar stats.

if in the end the items are better than our current ones then everying will be ok, as long as we have a way to get enhacements that doesn't require being lucky with the drops.

Most people assume they are in the majority.

I love the irony of that quote! if MOST people believe they are a MAJORITY, aren't they?

I'm going to make a wild guess... white, male, middle-class, straight? Let's add middle-aged just for fun.

In any game that is getting development, old gear always becomes obsolete sooner or later. Vanguard's augment system is probably the "screwiest" thing about the whole game, and if it is time to move on, so much the better. Moving on beats the heck out of continued stagnation any day! We are way, way overdue to leave PotA gear and aug grinding behind, and I applaud the devs for having the courage to make the much-needed move! I think many people have become far too attached to the status quo, as it is all we have really had to chew on for years now. Let it go, and move forward bravely, knowing that any new system will inevitably have to be ironed-out a bit before it becomes entirely smooth.

Besides, smart investors don't put all their eggs in one basket! And yeah, I went off the wagon! :p

I'll consider this confirmation that based upon the current information from the Devs that this is a terrible move. Yes, gear from new expansions always obsoletes older gear, it happens, and is to be expected. Yes, this is clearly a move by the dev team to level the playing field between older players who have done the current content and any upcoming players. I get that, I expected that. But based upon this post...

It doesn't sound like there will be much of a grind to keep us engaged. Yes the Schillers of the world will rejoice that their gear is the same as the people who have more time to spend. But this lack of things to do is what I worry most about in regards to the real long term future of VG.

This thread is a complete joke.

Hey devs, how about the next time you make a "Roundtable" discussion topic that you actually give a comprehensive and complete review of the system rather than holding back on key elements?

LMAO--throw me 3 twilights and you can stick me with a fork and call me done!

The Schillers of the world huh? You mean tanks that have:

22k hitpoints raid-ready, without using meat gear
Full T3 and Epic, fully augged purple warhammer, purple IWG cloak, Shendu and IWG rings, blah, blah, blah
Spell and Melee mit way over cap against Karax
    Flurry and Rage capped
98.9% accuracy vs. Spider before adding another accuracy aug
And probably another half dozen things I am forgetting right now, but I'm sure you get my point....
(BTW, I never, ever, run anonymous, so feel free to take a peek any time you like!)

You are correct that I believe (insane numbers of hours spent in a game) should never equal, much less overcome, (killing the toughest mobs in game). Like I've said way too many times to count, the best gear should come from the toughest mobs, period. Luck should not be a factor. Running in circles for hours should not be a factor. Running a script in SoK while you sleep should not be a factor. If the amount of time spent in game is what really matters, then just hand out the best gear based on /hoursplayed and be done with it.

Personally, I am ready for something different. I need something different if I am to be able to continue to play this game, because the way things are right now, it just plain ol' 'ain't no fun' anymore. I'm willing to take a chance on something new and hope for the best. Huxley's quote says it for me better than I ever could (my sig).
