Exmortis's levelling guide for crafters

  1. Good day folks,

I have stated many times in chat for guildies my experiences in levelling up crafters from 1-50. I have now 5 journeyman crafters (53 Tailor, 53 weaponsmith, 53 artificer, 53 carpenter, 53 armorsmith, 46 leatherworker), and have over that time refined my levelling process. It is based entirely on quest XP maximization, the XP for making quest items is often so low or zero I do not even consider it.

I am not saying it is the best nor the only way to level up, but it is how I have come to level all my crafters, and my lowest Scrotal is now working his way up, using this process. This is not a walk-through, but an over view of my levelling.

Step 1: IoD (I do not know if non IoD new starters give the same gear or not)
    - Level 1-10 Just so the IoD quests, I fully recommend you start ALL characters you intend to craft with on the Isle.

Step 2: Get your specialization and styles
    - You need to get Level 11, so work a few WOs to get the XP needed.
    - Go to a city with trainers on your home continent, Hub cities all have trainers (Tanvu, Khal, Tursh, and hubs of Ahgram and NT), as well as Racial Starter cities.
    - Now it is time to get the other two continental styles. Visit the starter towns listed above, of the two continments you are not from, there you will find the style quests.

Step 3: Do amateur tier quests
    - You must now do all three continental amateur tier quests so you can make any continental styled gear.

Step 4: Work order start to set skills and acheive level 16
    - Now you need to get your level and set any skill points. Make sure you watch progression, locking skills when they get too far ahead.
    - I recommend outposts here, you need 5k faction with all continental artisans so may as well start building it here, you will need to focus on Thestra and Qalia if you started on IoD.

    Step 5: Local quests
    - You now need to hit up the local quests around the game to really grab all the best gear. Every city has some but here are off hand the best of the best:
Ahgram - Some are 21+, but great quests, revisit after 21.
Tursh/rindol field - You may need to do some WOs for faction two of the best items are here for low level crafters
    Bordinars cleft - decent quests
Hathor Zi - has a decent gear item quest
Tanvu - A must, there is a great item here
Ca'ail Brael - Fiend hunters, awesome tool quest, also can do Tawar Galen local
NT - difficult to navigate but there are good quests here in the crafters area and Docks (aside from banishers)
    - You will need to do a few WOs here and there to help set skills, you may level faster then you assign them, especially refining.

    Step 6: Get level 26/27
    - You will most likely not hit level 26 or 27 in the above so at some point you will need to grind a few WOs
    - Focus on continents you have the least faction with.
    - Do as many batch WOs as you may get lucky and get a few Silver Sigils.

    Step 7: Banishers/Society Quests
    - Now that your 26/27 time to hit up the banishers and helo defeat the Cartheons and Suza,
    - Every 2 or 3 levels hit up the WO circuit again to set skills, use XP pots to help levelling.
    - NT and Ahgram each have three societies when done banishers, you can join one per city.

    Step 8: The grind
    - Now that your you in your 30s it is time to hit the outposts for WOs, housing areas are also great places.
    - Remember focus on batch WOs for sigils.
    - I only use XP pots here, so no more then 1hr of grinding per 6hrs of day time per character.
    - Save some 100% pots if an american holiday is close, they stack with bonus xp weekends.
    - You will need 44/45 before your done.

Step 9: Dawns Sign and Shandra
    - Once you hit 44/45 (I recomend 45 as you can just do it all) you have another small set of quests to do.
    - Hit up NT docks for the Dawn's Sign, few quests but close to a million XP to be had.
    - After that head to Ahgram (45 needed), and do the catalyst quest from Nelon.

    Step 10: The short Grind
    - Now you need to bring to 48 or 49, i recomend 49.
    - Again focus on least faction continents until you have 5k artisan in all three.
    - Batch WOs for sigils recomended

Step 11: Magic Hold (this can be skipped, just go to Step 12)
    - At 48 you can do the magi hold crafter quests, I am currently doing.
    - If you are not 50 adventurer, have a bard run you in, or die and be dragged.
    - Some of the quests need u to visit NPCs in the hold, if you less then 50, you can die and be corpse dragged/rezzed at each mob.

    Step 12: Maybe Grind
    - You must hit 50 now.

    Step 13: Genesis
    - NT craftring area is where this starts. This is a must do, not only a great questline, the gear is out of this world.

    Step 14: The future
    - POTA has some quests, but you need ot have access, thus 50+ adv
    - KDQ has some, but same as POTA
    - What ever else they add to the game

    Thats it!

    TIP:
recipes cost 8 sigils when you buy them at the same tier as you get the quest (ie your 23 and get T3 recipe quest for sigil hand in), how ever once you achieve the nest tier quest the recipes cost 2 less sigils (ie at 33 and get T3 recipe quest for sigil hand in), or 6 sigils. You have to get the quest when you acheive the tier, if you all ready have it just abandon and reget it for the new value to take effect.
  2. Confused. You suggest holding off on doing Banisher's and Society? That entire line starts at 11 - do they scale to your level now or something?

And the bolded section above is why I stopped crafting. This is the most boring, horribly tedious thing I've ever done. And I've leveled in an old school Korean MMO.
There really needs to be some content in the 30-45 level range, something to ease the work order grind fest.
  4. Flarestar wrote:
Yes it scales, so the experience gained is increased.
Basically if you start at lvl 11 and gain 5 levels from this quest line start to finish, you will also gain 5 levels if you start it at lvl 45 and end up a lvl 50 crafter at the end of it.
Although the gear is a nice little boost at low levels, I personally just complete banishers as soon as i can start it at lvl 11.

The XP of the banisher quests is scaled with your level until ~23 for the NT part. It continues in Ahgram and TG and the xp is scaled further here.
But really - the hardest time for a crafters are levels ~11-25, mainly because of gear limitations. The banisher line perfectly fill this gap and I would never shift it to anyway easy levels.

The Banishers line goes all the way to lvl 50 but the last part was taken out of the game due to bugs and one of the crafting classes not getting rewarded properly IIRC?
I hope it is put back in or something similar and also Diplomacy gets raised to 55 and has the Diplo Saga quest line extended to 50/55.
I have done the 55 grind on 4 crafters and it really is not fun at all. I only did it out of pure bordom on off raid nights.

eh, no. if you are having trouble, just go to a city and get crafting buffs. khal, tanvu, bordinar's, etc etc they all have buffs that you can push. better to suck it up in the earlier levels and level at a decent pace later on than reap all the benefits early on.

trying to bridge the gap between 11-25 with banisher gear is a good way to make your eyes bleed when you have nothing left but to grind out work orders later on.
  8. Flarestar wrote:
Yes, due to the fact it was added in after release XP scales, if youstart at level 27, you will get max XP for eacxh quest in the entire line.
  9. Selissa@Halgar wrote:
Agreed, this is why I picked up the running from town/city to city and doing all the local quests, you get into 20s this way, and every 2-3 levels I do a XP pot of WOs to set skills, this means I am well into my 20s when done them all ending with Ahgrams 21+ local quests.
  10. How is the rep grind to 5k continental artisan? I know they adjusted work order rep gains, but it use to be possible to get to 50 without hitting that benchmark. Is that still the case?
  11. Jharl@Telon wrote:
I personally had no issue, but I also monitored my faction closesly, and focused WOs on continents I was low on. In fact so much so, I was able to keep the factions relatively close.
Considering I never did a WO grind with out a full bar of rest XP and a 50% XP pot, and crafted like a drone on double XP weekends, and hit 5k per continent on all crafters by the time I finished Genesis, I'd say you should be ok.

I haven't said, I have troubles - but it stays, that these levels are the hardest ones. With buffs you can manage it, no question - but even then you will have a hard time to do white/yellow workorders below 20 for good xp - which isn't a big problem later on. You have to grind anyway at some point - I prefer to do it, when I can make white grade A batches without any trouble (for XP and sigils) - and this happens mostly around 25.
I have leveled 18 crafters to 50-55, I know what I am talking about

And there is another point: the XP scales, but the rewards does not. Some gear may be very strong at 15 but it could be nearly obsolete at 30 (just for example). You cripple yourself in getting all the good stuff too late.
  13. I had a level 32ish Blacksmith (weapons) right around the time of the F2P conversion. I'd done some of the banisher saga / aghram society of invention quests before here. Here is my feedback on the leveling guide:
Definitely a good idea to do much of the banisher saga after 20 but before 30. The reason I say this is that grinding through anything sub 20 is cake compared to post 20. Every ten levels they add another step and at least 1-2 more nasty complications you have to deal with each time. As the banisher saga scales with level, its best to do it after 20 for that very reason. That said, don't do it too late, because the gear is just really, really good for a level 20. Get at least the first set of orange gear (the banisher gear). Then I would stop questing, and take a more balanced approach of grind the first half of a level (skill point gains make grinding a lot more enjoyable), and then quest the second half of the level where you don't really gain anything but the odd stat point.
Try not to do all your quests at once, because that block of grinding from 30-45 is enough to make you want to puke. I got lucky and missed the banisher saga completely, so I was able to do the aghram, tawar galen parts along with a few stray aghram quests to go from 33-37 in pretty short order. The gear really doesn't compare to some of the recent 35s I've gotten, but since work orders never give you rings or earrings, those items were still helpful to me.
Anyway, thanks for the guide - it gives me a good idea of what quests I might have missed, so if I get bored I can at least hunt those down and see how useful they are not that I outlevel them by a great deal.
If nothing else, it tells me there is a need for some good quest content in the 30-45 range. I'm not saying there needs to be a TON of it - but it would be nice to have 1-2 quests per level 'somewhere' in Telon. I only know of 1 - and thats at the society of invention in Aghram.
  14. This is a little less then a guide and a bit more than an overview.
For a guide it would been nice to have seen where to go:
For example Step 3 where you state do amateur tier quest for all three continents. Where do I get them? or how do I know I am doing them? or have already did them?
Remember many who are looking for a guide are new or have return after 4-5 years and some of the stuff old player take as common knowledge might as well be written in a forieng language. For Exmaple IoD ment nothing to me since I was a returning player and just picked up my old characters. After reading a few post I was able to put 2 and 2 together and figureed it ment Isle of Dawn since everything they talk about it related to low levels like 1-10. However sometime I make the wrong assumption what intials mean.
Thanks for it though some good info in ther.
