Sigils stopped dropping?

A short time ago I was getting a steady supply of these doing work orders and in the last week or so they seemed to have disappeared, and I am still doing 10-20 work orders at a time getting yellow supply bags. It's irritating because I was working on getting upgrade recipes.

I know crafting is screwed up and it would be stupid not doing any crafting while waiting for the so-called revamp.

Ran into this today, first time it looked like this. I think it was one of them positive effects thats comes once a month or so.

Did the Ahgram and NT society quests today, doing 15 or so word orders, got 7 blessed drills and 6 or 7 of them yellow named Smocks, 1 actual useful item. Rewards here for those work orders need to have the stupid factor removed.

" stupid factor removed" I like that :)

I'm going to steal it :) (I'll credit you of course Zatz) and post it with some of the other recent "stupid factor" issues from SOE ;)

On topic, I've not seen a sigil in awhile, then again I don't craft that much either - I do like that positive effect icon though on your picture

I also did the society quests recently, on two characters. The rewards were 90% useless. Most of the time I got tools I could not use - all soul bound to make sure they are utterly useless (not that there would be a market for that many identical tools). I did it for the exp, so no real issue. I was more disappointed that my choice of the societies had no real impact to my crafting so far.

Since I crafted quite a bit recently, doing A+ batch work orders all the time, I can confirm that the rate of sigils is extremely low. In several hours (I used exp potions to boost crafting on three characters, so that 8 hour timer was a hint to me how long I crafted) I got one single silver sigil. It might be due to that exp boost, but there were times when I was able to earn sigils worth one recipe while advancing a full crafting tier.

There are more pressing matters than these, of course. It just feels odd.

I've never seen sigils drop from the society work orders, it's only on the outpost/city batch level 21+ (5 item) work orders. Not sure if that was changed as it's been a while since I did crafting. However, it used to be that you didn't get hardly any sigils between 21-40. Then after 41/42ish, you'd get them constantly. Just work on your levels and the sigils will drop until they're useless, plus you won't need to spend as many on the stuff.

Also check the exchange for recipes. Some of them can be bought from other players, not just from the masterwork sigil dude.

    LO@Josh

Sorry if I was unclear and that I implied I had the idea that I was expecting sigils from society work orders, I do not. I was expecting and getting 1 sigil, within that level range you mentioned, in 15-20 work orders but they just stopped totally within the last week now, its disheartening really and no surprise to continue to see one thing fixed and another broken, especially when this game trains us to expect something as normal and when that doesnt happen, we already know there has been a Dev fixing something else that is clueless to the other breaks he just caused to our expected "normality" and learns of those other breaks only by getting feedback/bugreports/forumrants/etc.

I have 3 crafters level 31+ (working on a fourth) now and its been the same for all of them with sigils and everything else. I wouldnt have posted if I didnt get slapped in the face with the problem.

This is getting more and more irritating not finding sigils in a reasonable time frame....

    still no sigils?

well... the last time I got lucky I received 2 outta 1 yellow bag the day of the last patch on one of my characters. it is frustrating and a real turn off from crafting. Someone suggested doing grey work work orders, I shouldnt have to sacrifice my crafting exp just to get a sigil here or there. Then I find out that upgrade recipes are no longer tradable as of a recent patch, which I see it as a BS change if true, but I cant friggen get sigils to see it for myself. I have 3 characters all 30+ in crafting (and two more on the way) that cant get the upgrade recipes. I just there is some dev sitting back laughing at this thread. :(

I might have to go find another game for a while, this is getting too stressful to do anymore and its too much like work. It's things like this that get subscriptions cancelled.

If its any help or not, but the real deal is you do not want to buy a single upgrade recipe until your into journeyman territory and I will tell you why.

Every tier you raise over the upgrade recipe, it costs you 2 less sigils. So if you wait until journeyman this is what you get:

Apprentice recipes = 4 sigils vs original cost of 8
initiate recipes = 6 sigils vs original cost of 8
    Journeyman remain unchanged.

One of the aspects of my levelling guide is eficiency, with the idea you want to level to 40+ to get journeyman as fast as you can to net the above savings in sigils.

As an aside, fishing seems to net the best sigil drop rate.

Thats nice information Ex, but...its about getting sigils at an appropriate level instead of being forced to grind out 41 + levels to get any at all. I will try fishing on one character, even tho that was something planned for later on, (since its less fun than a buffer-knife to the eye).
  11. Exmortis Well-Known Member

Do not get me wrong I do not disagree.

However I do beleive luck is largely to blame, I have levelled siz crafters and two of which have been rather startved for sigils like you mention, how ever the 4 others were fine, in fact Treager bought all sigils/recipes at the proper level for full price, bought all the extra "fluff" recipes and has ten or so gold sigils and thirty or so silver. The jerk character is so lucky last time I did a few work orders (noticed I had a few skill points to set) he got 4 silver in about ten work orders.

I can't explain it, possibly there should be maybe a few more given as quest rewards? but man it so uneven between my chars, they drop too much if you go by treager, and others they are so sparse I thought they were a lie for a long time!

LOL, well maybe we can get a dev to be a bit sympathetic and look into this phenomenon and increase the luck for everyone. Minor adjustment such as it is, my frustration level is not down enough yet to return to do work orders let alone playing for longer than 20 minutes. (thanks Exm.)

I have a crafter, L44 atm and the sigils have mostly never showed up in the 40's at all. The drop rate stinks; i'm so tired of doing tons of batch wo and getting crap- not even tools or clothes, except once.
  14. Zatzmanzatz Active Member

yes it stinks and veteran players have accepted this as normal and didnt think it was odd at all, most never said anything so nothing was ever done about it. There is a limit of frsutration any given player will put up with before they quit trying and, more than likely, quit playing all together. Myself, I have reduced play time to log in for only a few minutes at a time, and everytime I do, I truly desire to start crafting again and just cant pull myself together to stay logged in long enough without that frustration.

Not to put salt on the wound but... I got a silver sigil from a bag of wonders the other day
  16. Arutam New Member

The rarity of sigils in the early levels is indeed not satisfying. And the main source of sigils, especially gold sigils, should be crafting, not fishing or the Bag of Wonders.
To alleviate the lack of sigils, and the resulting recipes, in the early levels some tweaking of the drop rules might help. If silver sigils would drop from batch work orders of lower levels as well, for example starting at crafter level 11, lower level crafters would have a chance to get recipes when they can read them. Further, why not setting the silver sigil cost to 4 for apprentice recipes and 6 for initiate recipes, even if the crafter did not reach jouneyman crafting yet? My young mineralogist surely wants to wear upgraded jewelry without having to grossly outlevel crafting before being able to support adventuring.

Having too many sigils at higher levels does not help crafting at all. And the lack of sigils in lower levels is frustrating. If the drops started earlier and the costs were fixed there wouldn't even be a reason for gold sigils at all. The upgrade recipes and expendables could also be soulbound by default; no need to buy them, if the crafter can reasonably earn them by doing work orders.

I wouldn't mind if upgrade recipes dropped out of WO rewards instead of sigils. Sigils are a PITA.

In the past the veteran players all understood that in order to make decent crafted gear your crafting level needed to be 10 levels higher than your adventuring level...that's just the way the game is. Yeah, sigils are rare; they are supposed to be. Why do you all want to make this game stupid and easy just like every other game out there? The fact that it is a challenge and takes time and effort to accomplish things is what makes this game great and unique! And if you don't enjoy crafting then why are you even doing it in the first place? The xp boost has kind of ruined this a bit, but one of the nice things about this game is that isn't all about the end game...the journey getting there can be fun and enjoyable too. There are so many different aspects to this game...find what you like and do that. :)
  19. Zatzmanzatz Active Member

I dont think you get it, I dont want to make this game stupid and easy, I want the game to work right and appropriately. WE all know Sigils are rare, but how rare is rare supposed to be, when are they level appropriate drops? You have been eating the crap that has been dished out for so long that its tastes normal to you by now and someone has to tell you its not appropriate for you to eat that garbage to suddenly get the idea that there might be something wrong here. Sigils were design to be level appropriate drops, they even wrote quests around that concept, they should not be limited to end-game (45+) work order drops. The fact that silver sigils drop with some hint of normality prior to level 25 crafting and stop dropping until the later journeyman levels just is not normal. If you think it is, please feel free to continue to eat the crap on the table before you. The only challenge should be weather you can complete A+ work for the work orders and have the patience to continue that practice throughout your crafting levels.

Blaming the xp boost is a weak argument for ruining anything. The only thing it might ruin, if at all, is that there are more high level crafters to compete within the market.

Oh and telling someone to find something else to do is really condescending.
