I am testing out a theory I have with Vanguard that if I disable my page file system it will help the overall stability and performance of the game. Chiefly the primary bottleneck of the game is in the I/O of the hard drive in reading the files. With a page file my computer is constantly writing files back and forth from RAM to the hard drive -- literally my drive light is on a majority amount of time. My system isn't overtly robust, but it does have 8 gigabytes of RAM and a gigabyte video card. Last night I turned off the page file and rebooted the computer, then loaded two accounts of Vanguard and checked my taskmanager to see the total RAM used was a shy under 5 gigabytes of RAM. That being said, I watched my various meters and gauges as I chunked and and moved through the world, with my RAM never exceeding 6 gigabytes. I played for three hours last night never without a hitch or a problem. It did seem to run smoother as my page file system wasn't constantly writing data to the hard drive but I am assuming just keeping it in RAM. My hard drive still churned with loading graphics, but the overhead of the page filing system was gone. Thoughts?
