Funny, that works perfectly fine for my ranger. It used to be bugged yes, but they fixed it like a year ago. It's giving me Melee and Ranged damage bonus and crit chance just fine. Tested just now in game with both normal and modified (5 piece bonus) versions.

I feel like they were probably nerfed not because they devs could not understand the power they were giving, but because they want to be able to create new passive rewards and not have the players complain that they are only 10% as strong as the fly around quest. Maybe we get a 5% dmg passive after some part of CoW now, or get to choose something like one of the lorestone buffs for our character. It would be hard to make anything stronger than lorestone passives, but now it seems less so and more in balance with other passives like KDQ.

yep, probably true. still, a little communication goes a long way. one thing the team has suffered from over the years is an inability to explain why things are being done/changed, etc. we wind up with far too many apologies and fixes when just including us in the plan would help sort out issues ahead of time. We called this one wrong a year ago when it was implemented. we know this game and can actually be useful when we are partners.

Have you not heard of Smedley's School for Developers? the quote above the door reads. "YOU will get what we give you and like it!". There is no such thing as partners in MMO's, the simple fact that we make 20+ posts of ******** about something without getting a dev response is normal. There is no discussing anything. The devs post what will be done in this game and we whine and moan about it and it all falls on deaf ears mostly all of the time. All I can say for my self is that now there is less incentive to play and level up. The expected fun of finding lorestones up is no more.

Not to belittle any players knowledge about vg - some of you have an extensive database about the workings, but...

I find it interesting that many feel they should be included in the decision making process of this game. To me it's astounding.

I understand voicing your dislike/displeasure, identifying and notifying about bugs etc.

But, to be included in the decision making process? Kinda odd to me.

It would be like watching TV and telling ABC how to create and develop new shows- seems a bit absurd to me actually.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program... The updates...

I was one who asked for LS to be up all the time and don't mind the nerf at all - not saying it was because of me LOL although that would be great if I held that much influence ;)

Josh, many players have been playing MMOs for years, many of us for more than a decade (and many even longer), some players started playing Vanguard years before our developers started college… and some of these players have been playing nonstop since. We have seen how some decisions have affected gameplay; we know what works and what doesn’t… so it’s foolish to dismiss the veteran player’s advice.

Vanguard's team is not made of seasoned game developers, Queck is a total newbie. She has been working in game development for a few months. TLoch is also fairly new, he has been working for SOE for 2 years, first as an intern and then as a programmer.

About Wigin, he has more experience, I don’t really know when he started but he has been part of VG’s team for several years… Still he is a developer and he has not that much experience about how things work in the player's side, so he relies on us for feedback.

Another thing that you have to understand is that WE as customers are the ones that pay their salaries, if we don’t like something we vote with our money, so their job is keeping us "happy"… that doesn’t mean give us all we want, they have to consider what’s the best for us, many players would be happy if they were able to solo raid targets but that would be detrimental for the overall game’s health… they should listen to the players and give them what they need even if it’s not always what they want, and if that’s the case they should explain their reasons as best they can or they may risk to alienate the playerbase.

So we are not going to shut up and accept everything they want to do, as customers we have the right to ask for what we want… the team can do whatever they want, but so do we.

Since I have lorestones on my pally already.. I don't care.. But I won't be getting them on my other chars.. Even if it only does take 1 hour to get them all now , lol.
Even my crappy blue gear on monk gives better specs than 1%.. So insignificant, so really the only upside to say a "lorestones" is those reading the lore, and finding new areas.

And yay! Thank goodness , been waiting forever for the typo fixes.

As for the bard drums, than u for again nerfing the drums. As it stands with my bard drum(2nd or 3rd best in game) with my best run song, my bard runs at 252%, all of my chars, on the ground on there mounts run 525% and faster, and my paladin and sorc on foot run, about as fast as my bard.. Maybe 220%.. So when grouped with bard they outrun him in 5 seconds cause they bump up to like 350% with song, hehe

Everyone is missing the point. I want Game Stability. This means that analysis, design, testing, deployment (without creating BUGS), and tweaking within the first weeks. This new content becomes part of the game and is permanent. Nerfs do not occur ever!!!! When a Nerf occurs, it means that analysts and programmers have failed at their jobs !!!! Again, Shame, Shame and SHAME.....

You sound like you work for the governement. ANYTHING is possible with unlimited resources. When you have to turn a profit the game changes.

does it really? that sucks for me then lol, i just checked and its still giving me no melee damage bonus, a year ago it worked fine, just started happening a couple months ago for me at least. are you order? if so maybe that has something to do with it since im chaos? with the whole 5 set thing at least
  11. Roulete New Member

ah well i just took off a peice of pota gear so i didnt have the 5 set bonus anymore, and it is now giving me the 17% melee damage, it only doesnt work when i have the 5 set bonus on, and the modified griffon talisman

Nerfs are necessary and good for the game.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like nerfs either. I've quit games because of nerfs. I came back later admittedly. But games aren't static things. They live and grow, and if you want more development some things which seemed like a good idea at the time (and may have been a good idea at the time) aren't a good idea later. Or things are still a good idea, but other things are a better idea.

The important thing is to look at the bigger picture. With the development team looking at future content and character progression, addressing current issues with character progression is important. They have to go hand in hand.

well taking away from one part of the game just so you can introduce it later in another form into a upcoming part of the game isn't development either.

same reason planet side 2 is dead. they introduced weapons for SC sales. Nerfed it then brought out a weapon with similar but better stats over the one they nerfed so people would buy that with Sc, and now people got tired of it and the game is flat

I understand this but perhaps it would be easier to understand if we had some clues about what are you planning to do… right now if I were to judge the change to lorestones just by the patch notes I would be outraged because I got the lorestones when the spawn mechanic was different, therefore that nerf should not affect me because I got them before the change.

Now, I know that the lorestones were overpowered and lowering their power was necessary but I still feel that the timing isn’t the best. I suspect that you have something planned regarding passives, EEs and set bonuses but without any real information it just seems like a random nerf.

You and the team are doing a great job with communication but still it can be improved, changes like this one should be explained better as they affect many players.

I know, it’s a minor change, just nothing huge but I think that it should have been handled better.

Nerf players so they can continue to make mobs of the same difficulty we have now? That sounds backwards to me! Are they not capable of making new, tougher mobs?

Like I said in another post: Enough of the parallel-difficulty mobs! Let's take it up a notch! I want to hear some crying! (And gimmicks do not equal tough!)

No they cant because our development team has been cut in half, this cost less time. Seriously though nerft to 1/5th to what it was before, thats just crazy. balance tweak ok, take 1/3th of the power away, thats a balance tweak. This is just a typical vanguard "oh i didn't think before i acted change"

Exactly... It may seem backwards, but it seems that they want to do that… perhaps I’m being too negative about this, but I think that the devs think that they have to lower player strength in order to be able to create meaningful content again… I wouldn’t be against that idea if it means that they are laying the foundation for better and more balanced raid content that allows the developers to add harder mobs but I’m not sure.

It is never too late to fix something silly and out of whack. Remember how Paladins had their a few abilities out of whack for over 4-5 years and how they had 2h epics that were much better than Dread Knights for well over 2.5 years. Gidoo nerfed Paladins to bring them inline with their archtype so that it was easier to balance the DK and warrior (and that was my thread that started it).

Otherwise following this flawed logic of grandfathering stupidity (because something has existed for over a period of time), we would have had to boost DKs and Warriors to match OP'ed paladins and in turn you'd have to boost DPS classes just to introduce an gap between DPS archetypes and non DPS ones. Ultimately the end result was no tanks were actually "harmed" because of the balance changes.

Sometimes its better to fix a problem at its source directly rather than trying to work around it. The Lorestones deserved the same treatment because the rewards were silly for the effort required to obtain it. This must be done to balance rewards vs the difficulty of the content needed to achieve those rewards.
  19. dravid Well-Known Member

Most of the the lorestone rewards go over the cap (depending on how the cap for the attribute is calculated). But your crappy blue gear is subject to caps.

no offense but the lorestone buffs were so badass, at least for dps classes, as well as others, but dps classes seemed to benefit the most, regardless, it was well worth the effort in my opinion.
