Floating names partially obscured

  1. Last night and today I encountered an issue with floating names. They are partially obscured, as if there was an invisible chatbox floating over them. It is a rectangular obscuration (or perhaps square, I can't tell exactly), which reveals part of the name as I move the camera around. From a short distance, I can't see any names at all.
Last night, the only way I could fix the issue was to camp and come back; I haven't tried coming back today. Is this a known issue that affects others or is it just me? And is there any way I can fix it?
I'm using Windows 7, by the way, if that makes a difference (and I also have the "black-box-UI-edge-cursor" issue mentioned in another thread). Thanks!
  2. I have the same bug sometimes the only thing what helps there is when you tap out of the game to the windows desktop and tap in again :)
  3. Bad to worse. Today, the names are not just partially obscured, they sometimes disappear altogether. I've tried /flush, /flush all and turning names on and off in Settings. I tried my own name and even my own name is partially obscured. The blocked vision area seems to be directly in front of my character that extends out maybe 3-4 feet to tiether side of her -- a large rectangular/squarish window that allows her to see everything except text.
It goes from mildly annoying to highly frustrating to game-breaking for me. I'm a returnee (been back for 2 days). If I am struggling with this, I can imagine how frustrating it will be for new players, what with the upcoming transition.
  4. I experienced this same issue immediately after playing around with the antialiasing setting for my nVidia card. As I walked around the world, NPC names would become partially or wholly obscured. Dropping the setting to the minimum (or off, I forget) fixed the problem.
Of course, if you haven't been making any such changes, my experience is useless to you ;-)
  5. Now that you mention it, I did fiddle around with a few settings, although not with antialiasing. I changed resolution and maybe one or two other things under the Performance tab. I'll change them back and see if that makes a difference. Fingers crossed!

Hello Giana! Sorry for the late response. It sounds like this may either be a UI or graphical issue. I'd recommend following the instructions below to see if it fixes your issue.

You may want to make backups and then delete the following files:

    default.ini
    vgclient.ini
    vgclient.dll
    vgclient.exe

These files are located within the bin folder in the Vanguard directory. One or more of those files may be corrupt, causing these issues.

Next, delete the configuration files/folder by following these instructions:
    1. Open the Vanguard Launchpad (do not login at this time)
    2. Click Advance Tools, Open Game Directory, then close the Launchpad
    3. Delete the VGUIAssets folder from the main Vanguard directory
    4. Delete the files explained above located inside the bin folder
    5. Close all open folders and restart Vanguard using the Launchpad to login and play

If deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings
If you continue to have issues, please submit a support ticket to our technical support team so they can further assist you. Please include your Dxdiag and Msinfo to expedite the process. (Instructions are in my signature below)

    Question Alexs
which one of the above files holds the Hotkeys? sometimes when i log on all my hotkeys are gone. knowing which file to back up would help :)
  8. This problem for me still exists and it has always been related to anti-aliasing. Try turning it off (AA) and seeing if that works. If so, you likely have the same existing problem. What fixes this for me is ALT-TABBING out of the game and back in.

I do run antialiasing with VG forced in Nvidia control panel ( I have a 570 GTX ) and I do have to ALT-TAB out and back when i zone.
  9. I have been having this same issue, thanks for the tips on anti-aliasing. Started playing around with that and it seems to be fixed. I have an nvidia 465 I believe it is. I found that if I left my antialiasing set on application-controlled, which is the recommended option for this card, that it is working just fine. So for mode and setting I have it as appliction controlled. I also have some setting for antialiasing transperancy, I have this set to 8x supersample and that seems to work fine too. It is still very smooth in game and no more character name anomalies. I also had character names showing up through the walls and other environment geometry that was blocking the actual npc(s) from sight, but literally dozens of names might show through the walls. Again all seems to be working great with the new settings in the g card. One other note, I found out that if I reset the in game ansiotropic filter it would reset everything like what you guys are saying alt tabbing out and back does. If you are still having issues this is a way to reset it without leaving game though it does freeze up for about 3 seconds while it resets.
